Having a friend to talk to and spend time with can be very thrilling. This can also allow us to feel a sense of comfort and security when we have others that guide, motivate, entertain, support and even reprimand us throughout our lives. Of course, interactions with the people we care about will not always be “sunshine and rainbows”. During their personal plights, there are those who might redirect their anger towards their friend. There are those who might be overly competitive against their friend almost to the point of hostility. And those times can be very stressful and bothersome.

A friend would not only entertain you with his/her sense of humor or converses with you about their hobbies, predicaments, or plans. He/she would not only spend time with you engaging in bizarre activities. These are things you could do even with a stranger.

A good friend provides some form of support and shows a sense of care on your accomplishments and your well-being. A friend is someone who wouldn’t turn their backs on you for something trivial or something that was misunderstood. A friend would try to be understanding and sort things out with you after having a quarrel. A friend may even devote their time in walking/driving you home late at night and making sure you make it to your house safely. It is good to remain open to the types of people you are surrounded by. A good friend would attempt to understand who we are and where we are coming from, even if their thoughts, beliefs, and customs may be very different from ours.

As highly intelligent and social creatures, we value one of our most cherished memories that include who we interact with and how their presences influence how we see ourselves. And these interactions are not limited to just with humans. We interact with other animals like dogs, cats, chimps, parrots, etc. Can you imagine yourself having all of the physiological and safety needs to survive (food, water, rest, etc.), and yet you are the only living social creature on this earth? Social interactions can promote a certain community, where people design certain rules, norms and systems in which they can reside. Each person in a social group or relationship possesses their own skills, abilities, and knowledge that can contribute to their community.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
