More often than not, when fraternity men make the news, it is not for a good reason. Often times, it is because of an incident that lead to either someone getting severely hurt or injured. I am here to tell you that not all fraternity men are like the ones that you hear about on tv. Not all guys that join a "frat" are out to hurt or belittle one another. They are not all preppy, rich and selfish guys. The men that I know and have been lucky to meet are nothing like that.
The fraternity brothers that I know are some of the most compassionate, genuine, and intelligent people that I have ever met. They are men that have traveled the world and have become successful within and outside of their majors. They are devoted to practicing their faith and are like big brothers to the sorority women that they meet. They sit down and talk to women when we have bad days, protect us during "nights out", pretend to be our boyfriends when we really do not want to talk to a certain someone and are people that we always know we will have fun with. They are the greatest sweethearts to different sororities and they are some of the greatest people I have ever met. The fraternity men that I know are going to make an impact on the world because they value the morals and values that their greek organizations stands for.
The men that I know care more about others than they do about themselves. They take time to raise awareness for their philanthropic causes and are always there to support the work of other organizations. They go beyond what they are asked to do to help make a difference within and around the college community. The men that I know have spent hours collecting food to help feed the hungry, they have created their own cycling events to help raise money to end cancer, they have helped develop their own philanthropy to help people with disabilities, they have raised money for children and adults with cancer, raised money and awareness for the USO and they have given whatever they could to help a brother who was battling cancer. They have accomplished goals together as a brotherhood that no person could ever do alone.
I want to say thank you to all of the fraternity guys that I have met during my college experience. Thank you for being exactly who you are. Thank you for listening when I had a bad day and really caring if I was okay. Thank you for giving me a hug when I really needed it. Thank you for making me laugh during every second I spend with you. Thank you for being the greatest teammates during co-ed games. Thank you for waving to me and for brightening up my days. Thank you for being amazing friends. Thank you for being my big brothers when I am at school. Most importantly, thank you for breaking the status quo of what people "think" a fraternity man is. Keep being the guys that you are and making the news for the best reasons because truth be told, I think you all are pretty awesome.
