To The Friend Who Makes My Day Better

You are the one I trust with everything.

You may not have been there since day one, but you have been there for me since the day we met. You are the one I turn to after a bad day and the one who always lends a shoulder to cry on. You are “my person.”

Friend, you are the biggest dork I have ever met but you are also one of the smartest people I know. You are so intelligent and I wish I was as intellectual and have the knowledge of what is going on in the world. You are someone who accepts everyone for who and what they are. You are genuine and unique. You are content and accepting of yourself and that is a trait that not many people have. I trust you with all of my secrets, which says a lot for the time that I’ve known you. You stand by me during my best decisions and my worst mistakes. You have taught me how to be a more relaxed individual and how to keep a positive mindset when plans don’t go my way.

You are the one who will sing with me in the car, and the one who will help me with my school work. You bring out the best in me even though at times, we can be polar opposites. You and I, we bring out the weird in each other.

You make my college experience adventurous and make coming home after a long day no longer lonely. One day we will be the two old wrinkly friends in the retirement home who will be a nuisance to everyone who works there. Friend, you are as crazy as me. You know how to make people listen to you and pay attention to you when you speak. You’re the kind of person that people look at and are jealous of because you have the “I have life figured out” look. You know when something is wrong and always try to make every day a better day.

You make me smile, you make me laugh, and you even make me cry when I laugh too hard. For the record, I never thought I’d find someone I got along with better than how I get along with you. You are so easy to talk to, which is a characteristic I really appreciate.

Thank you for letting me vent, eat your food, and borrow your stuff. Thank you for being so reliable. Thank you for being the best roommate I have ever had. Thank you for everything. Friend, thank you for being you and accepting me for all that I am. I pray and thank God every day that I met you and am blessed that you continue to put up with my shenanigans. Thank you for being an amazing roommate, coworker, and sorority sister. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for you and how proud I am to be your friend.

I love you unconditionally.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
