You are extremely lucky if you have someone in your life who you consider a best friend. It is not only hard, but so rare to come across someone who shares the same hobbies as you, someone who finds your humor hysterical even if it isn't, or someone who you consider as part of your family.
In my eyes, these are the most important qualities that a friend needs in order to qualify as a best friend:
1. Someone who is loyal and willing to do anything and everything for your happiness.
As sad as it is, it can be especially difficult to find people who are willing to put you first. However, once you find people who will, it is something that you will appreciate more than you thought possible. It is important to have friends who not only put you first, but also motivate you to be the best person you could be.
2. Someone who is willing to listen to you vent and be there for you during the best and the worst of times.
We all know how it feels to need to express our feelings. If there is someone in your life who is willing to take the time and day to not only listen, but be there for you when you need to, that is something you should not take for granted. Many are often so concerned about themselves that they aren't willing to be there for the other people in their lives, so if you find someone who is willing to care for you and help you through anything, they're a keeper.
3. Someone who loves to go out, but someone who is also completely content with binge watching Netflix until 3 am.
It is so important to have a balance when it comes to going out and staying in. While many love to go out and to parties and get-togethers with their friends, I can say from personal experience that it is so nice to stay in and just relax with your best friend. Because there is no pressure to look good or meet anyone's expectations, it is a completely ideal and calming way to bond with the important people in your life.
4. Someone you can eat however you want with.
5. Someone who makes you smile.
Most importantly, a best friend is someone who contributes happiness to your life. They're someone you can laugh with, reminisce on old moments and memories with, and someone who guarantees that a smile will always be on your face.
Even if you don't currently have a best friend, I can guarantee you that you will one day find one. I can guarantee you that in time, you will come across the person or the people who are worth waiting for.
