As my first year of college comes to an end, I've learned a lot of things about life and more importantly myself. It seems strange to me that I am already finished with my first year of college, but it has definitely been an eye-opening event. I know that I have grown as a student and as a person, and I cannot wait to embark on my sophomore year, but there are many lessons I will keep in mind for the rest of my life.
1. Not fitting in with everyone is OK.
In high school, people are always striving to fit into a specific category. In college, I have learned that being different is not a bad thing. You don't have to force yourself to be someone else, you just have to be your own person.
2. You need to believe in yourself.
Sometimes you think that you are going to fail a test and ask someone else for some words of encouragement, but you have to learn how to believe in yourself. A positive attitude can do a lot for yourself and can go a long way.
3. Rest is extremely necessary.
College work is extremely stressful and if you do not take time to rest, you will become overworked. Remember that taking a day to yourself is not a bad thing and completely reasonable.
4. You're going to make mistakes.
College is about learning who you are, and mistakes are bound to happen. You have to recognize what those mistakes are and keeping going on with your life.
5. Some people will not have respect.
Sometimes, you just stop and think what goes on in people's minds. It seems as if you go on with your day, someone always has to make it worst. Just remember all the wonderful people in your life and carry on.
There are many other lessons I have learned, but what is most important is to remember that you will learn more and more every day. Have a yearning to learn, and life will be great. I cannot wait to see what sophomore year will have in store for me.
