Freshman year is now over. Tests scores have come in, final grades have been posted, and we've all moved out of the dorms. Looking back at where I started at the beginning of this year, things are so different for me than they were, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. My only hope is that the future freshman get to experience some of the things that I did this year. One of best memories was sorority recruitment.
When you go through sorority recruitment you never have any idea what to expect, unless you're a legacy, but I don't know many legacies. Visiting every house was like a dream come true. I'd wanted to be a sorority girl my entire life, and the only notions I'd had was what was in the movies. It's also the most nerve-wracking first week of college you could ever imagine. Not knowing what to wear, finding your own way to all the houses some days, and one day I also had the misfortune of being stuck in a massive rainstorm, ruining my hair, my outfit, and my attitude. I'm so thankful that by the end of that week, I had found my sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi. I often look back on that week because that is a week when you make the friends that you'll have in your sorority, you bond over the little things that you talk about while you're in line whispering.
I'll also never forget my freshman year roommate. We weren't best friends but I was extremely lucky to get her as my roommate. Riley dealt with my messiness, my light being on late, and my early morning noise making. After hearing the horror stories from my friends about the roommates that they got, I appreciated her so much more. The stories that she often came home with when she walked in at 2 am were priceless. Like the time she came in, telling me the story of how she almost got arrested for stealing a lunchable at the Highland Market, or the time she borrowed my insanely high heels and came home with bloody feet.
I'll also never forget the many times I went out with my best friends. I was lucky enough to have what we called a ride or die crew. Most of us were in different sororities, had different majors, lived in different dorms, but we still managed to stay best friends and have each other's backs the entire year, and considering how many friendships end during your first year of college, it was a blessing for sure.
I am now home and have started my summer, but something I didn't expect was to be missing college. When you're at college you're surrounded by people that are in the exact same place in life as you. Sure everyone is different, but everyone is a struggling college student in some way or another, coming home is like coming back to a different life. If you're at college, you miss home, if you're at home you miss college. There are so many things about freshman year I'll miss, but, I guess this means freshman year is a wrap.
