College is fun. Stressful, but fun. But let's admit, most of us are only going into thousands of dollars of debt because we couldn't go to Hogwarts. Reflecting on the movies and the past year, however, I came to realize that freshman college students aren't too different from Hogwarts 1st years. Whether you're an over prepared Hermione, a clueless Ron, or a struggling Neville, you will finish this year out.
It all starts with all the mail before you even get to campus
After long awaited countdowns, Orientation weekend arrives and you begin to realize that you are, in fact, an official college student
Then you begin to feel the freedom begin as your parents drive back home
Unconsciously beginning that "Freshman Fifteen" like
You get to syllabus week and begin to think "Hey college isn't that hard!"
But then the real work kicks in and you begin to feel completely out of control
And then you have to learn how to deal with all the drunks on Thirsty Thursdays
When its three weeks in and your RA and professors still call you the wrong name
After you do something "rebellious" for the first time
But then judging other freshman for doing similar "rebellious" activities
Meeting the really intense honors/double majors
Trying to make Dean's list first semester
Packing the student section for the first home football game
Helping people with last minute projects, only to realize that they didn't do any homework the entire semester
When everyone is telling you to "study the stuff you don't know"
Getting a finals week care package
And finally, when you get ready to go home for the summer and realize how much you feel like you're leaving home
Hunker down and get cozy kids, this crazy ride is about to repeat for the next three years.
