Freeway: What's For Free?

Hey here's a free granola bar, and let me tell you about love!

Freeway: What's For Free?

With Valentine's Day coming up everyone is looking for a date and someone to "love" for February 14th, but let's take a quick second to talk about real love, the love of God.

During this week you'll see girls all over campus handing out FREE snacks, yes you read that right, FREE! They'll be handing out these snacks in order to take the opportunity to tell you about what's even better than free snacks, God's love. And guess what? God's love is free too!

As much as we like to believe that we're in this little "Christian bubble" here on the A&M campus, we want to take the opportunity to remind those that know of God's love just how much he loves them and also tell those who may not know of God's love about the amazing things he does for us, and how God's love is even better than a free granola bar.

So here's what Freeway is really about:

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins." 1 John 4:10

I think even as Christians we tend to play down the fact that God sent his ONLY son to be crucified and suffer for US to be free. We talk about Easter, we talk about the crucifixion and the resurrection, and we recite bible verses and songs declaring that God sent his only son for us, to save us, to free us, simply because he loved us, but if you really think about this all and really take in the true magnitude of what God did for us, its overwhelming.

Jesus died on the cross, knowing full well that we will still sin, that we will fall and fail at times, but still, he went on the cross to show his love for us, and to provide us with everlasting grace.

I asked four girls to describe God's love for them, these were their replies:

"God's love is unconditional and never failing."

"God's love is limitless and perfect."

"God's love is overwhelming and undeserved but He lavishes it upon us and calls us His own!"

"God's love is like the love of a parent, you don't have to earn it and it is unconditional. Except, sometimes parents make mistakes because we're all just humans, but God is perfect and so is his love."

Isn't it amazing that this love described as unconditional, overwhelming, perfect, limitless and never failing is free for you and everyone else? This love of someone being crucified for YOUR sins and YOUR failures, this love of grace and forgiveness and this love of sacrifice is free.

So this Valentine's day (and every day) instead of searching for a date and seeking out love, take a step back and focus on the love God has for you, the limitless, endless and unconditional love.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
