I spent this past week in Washington D.C. attending the National Conservative Student Conference. Speakers such as former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, Ben Shapiro and Senator Rick Santorum shared their ideas on defense, the economy, corruption, and probably the most common, freedom of speech.
As citizens of the United States of America, under the Constitution we are granted among our many cherished rights this right to Freedom of Speech. This enables us to speak our minds, uncensored, without causing harm, panic, or breaking rules of private institutions (schools, businesses, etc.).
However, in today's society this right seems to only be applicable to certain people, that "certain people," being the liberal left. For the very people trying to preserve this right and the Constitution in it's entirety, the blessing of Freedom of Speech is ceasing to exist.
We see this in our news every single day.
Every Black Lives Matter protest is praised by the leftist controlled media, while any mention of Blue Lives Matter or respect for our police force seems to be deemed as racist and hateful towards African American culture.
In the same way, Christians are shamed for speaking publicly about their faith, while, again, gays are highly praised for their courage and strength in speaking out about homosexuality.
I could walk through hundreds of different examples that we see daily, but I will share an experience I had last week.
After a long day of speakers in DC, my friends and I, who all were attending the same conservative activist conference, went out to a restaurant. This was the last night of the Democratic National Convention so, of course, Hillary Clinton's speech was covering every screen loud enough that you could hardly hear the person next to you.
We all are very involved in the political realm, and although we do not agree with Former Secretary of State Mrs. Clinton on various issues we were very interested in what she had to say, so as we ate our appetizers and enjoyed our beverages we respectfully listened. Within our small table of six or seven people, we discussed issues that Mrs. Clinton was bringing up in her speech.
Two students from our table went to order more. The first student was told his card he had just used 30 minutes ago is now declining, and the second card he gave them (his parent's) also declined. The second student ordered a drink and was told she was "acting weird," and he was allowed to deny service to anyone he wanted. The middle-aged African American man behind the counter was incredibly rude, and a few minutes into the confusion he yelled out something along the lines of, "y'all are a bunch of racists!!!," and suddenly the whole situation made sense.
My friend's cards did not, in fact, decline, nor should the other have been denied service, but since we were not aboard the Clinton Caboose (who is, indeed, a 68-year-old white woman... Just saying) we are now nothing but a bunch of racists.
This situation did not have a major hindrance on my life, or leave a long lasting emotional scar. We simply just asked the man's name, told them we would be reporting this to an owner, and left the restaurant. However, it clearly put into perspective the intolerance and hypocrisy of liberals ESPECIALLY when it comes to freedom of speech. If the situation had been reversed, the restaurant would have likely had a lawsuit thrown at them and Black Lives Matter protesters surrounding them within 24 hours.
My point is not to whine about being unfairly treated, or draw insane media attention to our misfortune, but it is to say that I, as a white conservative female, and you, as a black liberal male, have the EXACT same Constitutional rights as citizens of the United States of America. You cannot silence me because you disagree with what I have to say.
As Evelyn Beatrice Hall stated, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." I hope someday we can all grasp this concept.
