5 Ways To Celebrate The 4th of July — Without Fireworks Or Social Gatherings

With the Fourth of July on Saturday, the usual tradition of popping fireworks, grilling out, and being surrounded by family has been modified due to the pandemic. Whether you're a loner or surrounded by family, there will most likely be some changes to your celebrations.

For weeks on social media, people across the country have been complaining that they have been subjected to fireworks going off at all times of the night into the early morning. This has sparked concern and questions about why this is happening and how are people even obtaining the fireworks.

As a person who has had to deal with the random loud burst of fireworks at 3 a.m., I wanted to figure out if there was a way to celebrate the Fourth of July.

I did some searching and brainstorming, and I came up with list of things that are safe and annoyance free. Here they are:

Confetti Poppers

Amazon

Confetti poppers are an easy DIY project that will help you celebrate the Fourth, with the loud bombardment of fireworks.

Create a playlist of American classic songs

Music is as integral part of the American culture. There are a plethora of songs that are patriotic, whether to the country or their respective states and cities. Some of these include:

"Empire State of Mind" - Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys

"Freedom" - Beyonce ft. Kendrick Lamar

"Party In The U.S.A" - Miley Cyrus

"Living In America" - James Brown

"Born In The U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen

"This Is America" - Childish Gambino

"Made In America" - Jay-Z

"Star-Spangled Banner" - Whitney Houston

Just to name a few. This is a fun way to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

Watch Fireworks on TV

There are many stations that will be displaying fireworks shows this year because of the requirement of social distancing. The hyperlinked title has a list of stations and programs that will be displaying fireworks shows. This is another way to celebrate with the dramatics of fireworks without disturbing people.

Watched movies with American Themes

The film industry has an abundance of movies that are based on stories from American culture and history. The Fourth is also the perfect time to relax and have a movie marathon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
