Little reminders to look a certain way constantly surround us. More obviously so, regarding weight. Advertisements, magazines, and other media have told society that they don’t look the way they should. Numerous reality shows about losing weight shows us how to exercise and diet. Celebrities endorse fast-track fixes. Products that can “get us that summer bod we’ve always wanted” bombard us. We diet, we exercise, and we drive ourselves crazy trying to maintain or reach that ideal body type, because that’s what society has told us were supposed to do. It’s learned that we are defined by our outer appearance, and we focus very little on the value of our minds. In a world that's so concerned with outer appearance, it becomes a rebellious act to nurture the mind.

So how do we do this? How do we take steps to take care of our mind? What are the supplements and dieting tips for the mind? In the words of the dieting companies, here are four easy ways to get your mind in shape and get that perfect mind you’ve been wanting.

Create goals

Creating goals is like the meal planning part of getting you body in shape. Goals feed the mind, so you want to make sure your feeding it what it needs. Unique to each person, your goals are the nourishment that your mind needs to survive. It gives purpose and objective and when achieved, goals create self-gratification.Simply knowing what you want allows you to find the resources to attain your goals rather than randomly stumbling upon it. By recognizing your goals and what you want, you are more inclined to find the means to achieve them.

Find drive

Going hand in hand with goals, drive is an important aspect of feeding the mind. This is the desire and urge do what you do to achieve your goals. In terms of body, this is the exercising part. It's the actions you take to achieve your goals. Respectively, the higher the drive, the bigger the reward. The more you want something, the harder you’ll work to achieve it. Without drive, there's no motivation to expand your mind and achieve anything purposefully. Find a drive for information. Figure out what you’re interested in and then learn about it. Immerse yourself in the content. Nothing makes the mind more powerful than knowledge, and nothing pushes the mind to actively learn than drive.

Exercise

Not for your body, but for your mind! We all know the scientific benefits to exercise and its effect on one's mind. It clears your mind and creates endorphins, creating a feeling of energy and happiness. Exercise works just as well, if not better, than ADHD medication. Even if it’s just a 15 minute walk to class, exercise is by far one of the best ways to treat your mind.

Keep an open mind

Lastly, I encourage you to keep an open mind. Even if it's not to blindly agree with their beliefs and values, but to expand the diversity of your own. Just as each body is unique, each mind is distinct to each individual person. Your thoughts, ideas, and opinions have been molded and remolded since the day you were born, affected by the numerous factors you’ve encountered along the way.Every opinion, thought, and idea has its justification. Factors have push and pulled each individual mind, validating each perspective. A factor such as family background, major life events, drives, and goals can justify those ideas. By listening to them and creating your own opinion on them, you expand your own knowledge of the world.

We forget to take care of our minds in a world so concerned with body. Find attractiveness in your mind! It's beautiful and wonderful and unique, but it needs to be taken care of. Take time to nurture it so you can use it to create ideas that are unique to you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
