It can be easy to forget about the health of your mind and body when you’re in college. Most of us have a ton on our plates and don’t have time to worry about things like working out or eating healthy, and when we do have time we’d rather spend it sleeping or binge watching Netflix. We have to remember, however, that our bodies can only handle so much, and we have to make the effort to take care of them. Here are four ways you can keep both your mind and your body healthy while in college.
Work out multiple times a week. This one is kind of obvious for keeping yourself healthy, but I know that I personally have to be reminded just how good a workout out is for you. Not only does it keep you healthy and in shape, but it’s also a great way to relieve stress. Try to incorporate some form of working out every other day. It really doesn’t matter whether you run, walk or hit the gym, any kind of working out is good.
Try to eat healthy regularly. Again, I feel like this is another one of those obvious things to keep yourself healthy, but I never really knew how much of a struggle it would be to eat right in college. This is extremely hard, especially with how little time we have to cook, but you should really try to steer clear from eating out on a regular basis. Even making yourself a small salad to take on the go is a better idea than constantly eating out.
Get into a regular routine. Your body is made to follow a routine, whether it be going to sleep around the same time every night or eating around the same time each day. It can be really difficult to do things at the same time every single day, especially sleeping, but try your best to get yourself into a regular routine that you can follow.
Find a hobby that you can do when you’re stressed. This can be writing in your journal, yoga, or reading — basically anything that can take your mind off of the things that cause you stress. Try to do this activity at least every other day. Do something that allows you to take a breather from the world. This will help you refocus, and you could potentially accomplish more after you’ve given yourself time to relax.
