Four Studying Tips for College

1. Have two notebooks.
One notebook is for notes taken during class, and the other is for studying. Take notes as usual in the “notes” notebook, but when you get back to your dorm later, transfer those notes into the “study” notebook. Rewrite everything nicely, and organize all the information. The act of rewriting things actually helps you remember what you wrote, so just rewriting it is almost studying. When you do actually sit down and study, everything will be neat and tidy in your “study” notebook, making it easier to find information.

2. Use index cards.
Each card should have one term on the blank side, and a definition on the lined side. I have used index cards to quiz myself for years now, and it never fails. It may seem a bit elementary, but it really makes a difference when you’re trying to learn vocabulary. Physically having the cards makes it easier to study from them, rather than online cards. You can sort them into different categories to study from, and you can group them however you want. Plus, you can take them anywhere!

3. Space it out.
Learning everything all at once rarely works. When it does, it’s mostly only a short-term memory thing. If you want to actually learn the information for forever, you need to have scheduled breaks. Here’s what I do: twenty minutes of studying (learning vocab, writing it out, doing whatever needed for that class), and then a five to ten-minute break. Then, another fifteen minutes of study, and then another break. After that break, review what you studied for the past two study sections. Repeating this mini-schedule has helped me learn tons for my classes. The breaks help your brain relax so it can start working again, so do not skip the breaks.

4. Change it up.
Don’t try to study all subjects at the same time, or even on the same day, if possible. Let one day be, say, Science Day and let another be English Day. This will let you focus on just one thing at one time. You don’t want information from Math to mix in with information with Spanish!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
