Four Reasons To Join The Odyssey

As college starts up again, students are looking forward to being on their own for the first time or reconnecting with their friends. One things students tend to look at are possible clubs and organizations to join that will keep them active on campus. Here are a few reasons why you should join the Odyssey.

It's Perfect For Students With A Tight Schedule

One of the main reasons why students are unable to join an organization on campus is because they don’t have enough time to attend the meetings. This can be because a class is at the same time as when the club meets or they have a job and would feel like they can’t contribute. With writing for the Odyssey, however, you don’t to worry about this being a problem. If you can’t attend the meetings you’re still contributing by writing articles each week. You won’t feel out of the loop and have to worry about missing any important information which makes it easy to join for busy students trying to find an extracurricular activity.

Great Way to Meet Other Students

The best way to get to know people on campus is to join an organization. Joining a club is the easiest way to make friends with others who have the same interests as you. You can ask them for article ideas or even have them help edit your articles. Each chapter works as a community to make sure that every member is writing the best articles they can.

You Can Write About Any Topic You Want

Many students often feel limited only being able to write what they are assigned in class. When you’re writing for the Odyssey, you can write about any topic you want. You can write about your opinion on a controversial event or even a personal event that changed your life; it’s all up to you. There’s different styles to write an article, such as a paragraph format which follows a story, or a short Listicle version like the one here with small blurbs about a topic. Switching between the different types of articles will help you grow as a writer since you’re challenging yourself to write in a style that you’re not comfortable with.

Your Work Is Published

What drew me to write for the Odyssey was the idea that my articles were published on a platform where people could read and comment on my work. There’s a sense of pride involved when the articles are published because they are putting their work on display for the world to see and have to deal with the criticism they receive. It’s also a great way to build your resume and stand out when applying to jobs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
