From the time we are born, many of us were taught to always share, to always be kind and to say please and thank you. If we decided not to share our toys, our parents would say something like, " stop don't be so selfish!" For some kids those early lessons shaped their behavior for the rest of their lives, but honestly everyone needs to be selfish. Don't get me wrong: I do believe we should be caring and generous towards other, and treat everyone with respect, When I say "selfish," I believe we should all be selfish towards ourselves. The keyword in selfish is "self." Here's four reasons why you should be selfish:
1. Be confident.
Every morning when you look in the mirror, you should tell yourself your beautiful. Fall in love with yourself so that someone else can too. When someone compliments you, believe them. Don't wait on someone's approval to feel good about yourself. Walk with your head held high, because you have a purpose and the world is waiting for you.
2. Know your strengths.
Whether your good at dancing, winged eyeliner, or chemistry, own it! Everyone is good at something, no matter what it is. Just make sure you love whatever you do.
3.Find your weaknesses.
No one is perfect and sometimes many of us forget that. Don't beat yourself up about any of your weaknesses. Instead of getting upset, accept the things you cannot change, and have the courage to change what you can.
4. Stay Humble.
Many confuse confidence with conceitedness and selfishness, but just because your confident doesn't mean you can't be humble. Never forget the people who supported you and never let your ego get the best of you.
Teach someone how to be "selfish." Teach someone to love themselves.
