Four That Lies Mary Kate and Ashley Told Me

For most girls born in the '90s and early 2000s, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were basically our idols. From their detective work to their "You're Invited" series and their trips abroad, they made us beyond excited to grow up and live glamorous, jet-setter lives.

However, for most of us, their lives set up some unrealistic expectations. Most of our parents would not allow us to disappear with the family dog, solving mysteries at 7-years-old, or allow us to wander around foreign countries with little to no adult supervision as teenagers. Come to think of it, they flat out lied to us about life in the most fun and subliminal way possible. Here are the four lies that got to me the most.

1. Family Vacations

Even though the twins would go on vacations with their family, they spent little, if any, time with them at all. They made all of us think that if we went to the Bahamas, we would be jet-skiing, swimming with dolphins, and kissing cute boys all the while leaving our parents in the room. I don't know about your families, but we tend to spend family vacations as a family.

2. The mean girl always loses in the end.

In their movies, the mean girl would always win for a while, but lose in the end and the twins would walk away with the hunk and their pride intact. Sadly, in real life, the mean girl often wins the boy, the confidence, and life in general. Have you ever noticed that the mean girls always seem to have the best/cutest/most perfect boyfriends? That's not to say that the mean girl will always win, but she most definitely will not always lose.

3. Their Walmart Clothing Line

As one of their loyal followers, I was determined to be like Mary-Kate and Ashley in any way possible. One of those ways was by buying their clothing line at Walmart. However, I don't think they ever wore any pieces of clothing from this line. Meanwhile, we all thought that we were sharing closets with Mary-Kate and Ashley.

4. Boys

There was always a boy for each of them everywhere that they went and they were always the cutest ones there, obviously. Not only that, but they would miraculously make their new relationships work despite the fact that they were 13 and in a foreign country for a week. So, clearly, whenever we go anywhere, that means that the cutest boy will fall in love with us in a matter of hours, right?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
