The Founding Fathers' Reactions To This Election

In a word, disappointment.

Election day is drawing closer and the founding fathers are rolling over in their graves. I don't think anyone will be too shocked to hear that they're not so pleased with the way this election season has progressed. Disbelief, outrage, flabbergast and pure disappointment are the ways they've described their feelings on election season this year.

Upon hearing about Trump's "small" loan of a million dollars from his father, Alexander Hamilton could be found furrowing his brow in confusion, wondering when such a sum became regarded as so admissible.

When Trump started spewing conspiracies about China creating global warming and then offered this golden quote to further demonstrate his lack of understand of the concept: "It's freezing and snowing in New York--we need global warming!" Sam Adams for one was very confused.

And, let's not forget the time he was so careless with his speech that Trump confused 7-eleven with 9/11.

Paul Revere was not impressed. He was even less impressed that time Trump said: “[John McCain’s] not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.

And, let's not forget the debates. Starting as a country forged from the values of freedom and integrity, we've come quite a long way...by devolving, that is. It's no secret politics are quite corrupt, but for the presidential debates to be reduced to displays of 5th-grade-recess-esque bullying...seriously? This is what we've come to?

Those displays left GW looking like a dad saying, "What did I just say?" to two kids who immediately started bickering after he turned his back.

The times people are most patriotic are those when we recall the American Revolution or the brave, heroic work of our veterans. It all comes down to the values that this country has grown to foster: the facts that all are created equal and that we all have the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Granted, a lot of these things weren't upheld even in the time of our highly romanticized founding fathers. But as we move further forward, it is our job to ensure that these rights do apply to every single human being in this country. Not just males, not just whites, not just Muslims. At this point, no one should have to be telling us they're disappointed for us to know right from wrong. The fact is, both the republican and democratic presidential nominees are questionable. But only one is explicitly voicing his plans to violate human rights, completely disregarding the effect of his branding of our country.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
