It took me a long time to find my worth. From the very early years of my childhood, I had a calendar full of important club meetings, practices, classes, and commitments that took up nearly my entire time. Yet, I felt so empty, so drained, so worthless. For a very long time I claimed a love for Christ that was nearly non-existent, and eventually, it became just that. Non-existent. I was, and still am a lot of the time, an ingrate towards the love of Christ and my purpose in life. I forget just why I'm alive, and go through life trying to fill the void with business and a full calendar.
The truth is, I was worthless without devotion to Christ. I was worthless when I wasn't running toward Him because He is my worth. He is the very reason for my existence, and without continually seeking Him, my life is simply wasted time.
I was preparing for a Bible study, and ran into some pretty powerful messages. I started in Exodus 19, where Moses goes up to Lord on Mt. Sinai, and God tells him to prepare himself and his people to obey His word. God promises to make Moses and his people "a treasure" if they would simply listen and obey His voice. Later in Scripture, like way later in Romans, Gentiles are grafted into the promises of Israel, which means that everyone, not just Israel, is His treasure if we only listen and obey His voice.
Now, God was well aware of the fact that we could never successfully listen and obey His voice, so in Hebrews we are reminded of Christ's role in the Gospel, to rid us of the legalistic rituals by becoming our sacrifice. In Hebrews 10 verse 14, it states that, "by a single offering, he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified." So by the process of being made holy, we are being made into His treasures. We have so much worth because of what Christ accomplished on the cross, and if we are continually listening and obeying His voice, we can never become worthless.
So, for those of you who feel worthless, there is a King who is waiting on you to listen and obey His voice. There, and no where else, your worth will be found. Don't search any place else, because I can assure you that you won't find what you're looking for in anything but His voice.
