For Those On The Hunt For Change
Transgression

For those who have the odds against them: I WILL show you that you can enter a controversial and widely speculated field and make an impact. I WILL prove that your voice should never be silenced, your ideas should never be stripped from you, and your drive should never be hindered. I WILL make sure that you know that you can achieve greatness in all that you do on your journey, no matter how big or small. I WILL be with you on this quest for change, regardless of interest or fields, forever. I WILL be here, today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

For those wondering why I am so passionate about prison reform: I WILL prove to you that I am dedicated to implementing change in this great nation. I WILL show you that what I have seen has greatly impacted me and that it is my turn to change the lives of those who lack the ability to do so themselves. I WILL show you that my experiences had and knowledge gained make me a credible source for information. I WILL show you that, as a woman entering a controversial field, I have the unprecedented power to promote change within a silenced community. I WILL, through my research and endeavors, attempt to make teenagers and young adults aware of the changes that they can implement if they are inspired to do so. I WILL show those who doubt, question, or spite me, that my work will bring about unprecedented changes. I WILL be here, today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

For the families of an incarcerated individual: I WILL bring awareness of the struggles of having a family member locked away. I WILL help alleviate the financial burdens that having an imprisoned family member provides. I WILL be your support system, your voice, and your go-to for advice. I WILL never leave you and will continue to fight for prison reform until the United States has the lowest incarceration rates in the world. I WILL make sure that you can, one day, see your loved one and not feel any shame, guilt, or disappointment for the acts that they once committed. I WILL stay by your side through the good and the bad, through thick and thin, and through the highs and the lows until your family has the justice that they deserve. I WILL make sure that you become the best version of yourself, to never live in the shadows of your family members’ mistakes, and to achieve all of your hopes and dreams. I WILL give you my all in our journey to bring about change as a community. I WILL be here today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

For those with a lack of knowledge on incarceration in the United States: I WILL be your best source for information. I WILL do extensive research to bring awareness of incarceration in the United States to the forefront of our national agenda. I WILL not stop until every American is aware of the burdens that imprisonment bestows upon our fellow citizens. I WILL make sure that everyone comes together to support the families, the children, the communities that suffer from those who are serving their time away. I WILL help to organize events, to speak out, and to bring justice to those who are incarcerated throughout the United States. I WILL be sure to provide you with the knowledge that you need to promote greatness in this typically unacknowledged community. I WILL be here today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

For those who fear speaking out: I WILL be the leading voice that you need. I WILL show you how important it is to speak in front of political figures, economic greats, and those of social status. I WILL be there every step of the way to make sure that we, as a nation, help those who are seemingly helpless. I WILL do all that I can to make sure that we can reach the widest audience possible to ensure that Americans have more knowledge than they need to promote change. I WILL make sure that you recognize that you can speak out on a topic that may bring about controversy. I WILL make sure that your voice is not oppressed, that you will not fear for your safety, that you will achieve greatness if you simply take the moment to speak out on behalf of those who cannot. I WILL stand up beside you to discuss change every time that we get the opportunity to do so. I WILL be here today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

For those incarcerated: I WILL bring justice to each and every one of you. I WILL work to find a way to reduce the burdens of your absence in your loved ones’ lives. I WILL be the change that you have always hoped for. I WILL reduce the incarceration rates throughout this great nation, the nation that ensures life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I WILL visit as many of you as I can, I WILL learn your stories, and I WILL push for political, economic, and social support from those with utmost power in this country. I WILL be the change that you need, that you seek, and that you deserve. I WILL do this for all of you. I WILL be there for you. I WILL love each and every one of you, regardless of your past mistakes. I WILL support you through the good and the bad, both during and after your incarceration. I WILL be here today and everyday, promoting prison reform for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
