For The Times You Don't Feel Like Enough

We all have those days where we need a little encouragement.

For The Times You Don't Feel Like Enough

"You are enough."

This phrase is one of the most underestimated pieces of advice I know of. There will be many times during our lives that we feel like what we are doing isn't enough, or that who we are as a person isn't enough to make someone else happy. The truth is, that's bullshit. I am known for giving advice that I should take myself, so here's a few reasons why you are enough.

1. You are you, not someone they want you to be. Your quirkiness, your weird laugh, your anxious sometimes self-destructive self is alright. As long as you are who you want to be, you are enough. It is so important that we work to become our greater selves. If you aren't who you want to be right now, do not stop working toward it. Just because we have moments of self doubt doesn't mean that we aren't enough.

2. You've accomplished a lot, and you're trying your best. A lot of us freak out about small things because we don't see the big picture all the time. We freak out about texts we send, upcoming tests, trash talk, and change when really it's all supposed to happen. It may not seem like all the hard work you're doing is going to amount to anything but it is. All of the hours we invest in studying or even with another person will pay off some way. So cheer up, silly.

3. "You're like really pretty." I feel like the Mean Girls comment fits pretty well for this topic. You may not feel like you are pretty to anyone, but I promise there are plenty of people who see you and see your beauty. I am a culprit of this 100%. I don't feel like I am pretty when I wear sport shorts and a t-shirt, but when I've needed it most someone has always told me that I was pretty that way.

4. You're trying to take care of yourself. It isn't always easy to take good care of ourselves. I'm the type of person that will go and go until I make myself sick. Sometimes it's okay to sleep an extra hour, or take a day to yourself. We need a little TLC here and there. As long as you make an effort to take care of yourself, you're doing pretty well.

On our weakest days, sometimes all of the kind words in the world can't make us feel better. Thankfully those days should only come around every once in a while. If you step back from you situation and analyze how much you're doing and how much effort you're giving, I bet you will be surprised with yourself. I can honestly say there is probably someone else in the world that is feeling the same as you and I can guarantee someone has had a worse day. You're still breathing, you are strong, you have value, and you are enough.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
