This past week was one of those dreary, rain-filled weeks, and it got me and my roommate in a competition of who could complain the most about the rain. We sat there at our kitchen table and shouted complaints back and forth until we were laughing so hard we were crying. Some people love the rain...but I am surely not one of those people, nor is my roommate. So, this here list of thoughts is for those college students like me and my roommate. The ones who can't stand the rain. I'm hoping you can relate to the thoughts that my roommate and I shouted at each other.

1. Don't make me go to class!

For real though. We shouldn't have to brave the rain and risk melting.

2. It's going to rain all day isn't?

It better not. I've got places to go today.

3. I can't wait to get back to my room.

Bed, I hear you calling my name. I promise I'll be there soon!

4. UGH! Stupid puddle.

I guess it's my fault for not paying attention and trying to focus on not poking anyone with my umbrella.

5. My shoes are wet.

Great. Now my socks are going to make my feet freeze.

6. The bottom of my jeans are going to take forever to dry.

I don't have the time for this.

7. I really should go get actual food.

But it's raining outside and it's kinda cold and I just want someone to deliver it to me...pizza!

8. First I'll eat the rest of these chips.

Oh, okay. I didn't know these were stale.

9. Why did I forget my umbrella?

I even looked out the window before I left.

10. Maybe I should invest in a rain jacket.

But that's less money for food.

11. It looks like my pants just got sprayed by a hose.

I mean, it kinda looks like a cool pattern.

12. It is going to rain all day.

Well now I'm even more lazy and less motivated.

13. Do I even have time to change before my next class?

I'll just be late. There's no way I'm sitting in a cold lecture hall with soaking jeans and socks.

14. I hope none of these people saw me almost fall and break my spine.

I think I just had a mini heart attack.

15. Is it tomorrow yet?

I swear if the weather man says it's going to be raining tomorrow, I'm going to be complaining even more in the next 24 hours.

Really, we could sit down and come up with probably 100 (maybe I'm exaggerating) complaints, but that'd take too long. I bet you could fill in the rest. The thing I want you to understand is that you aren't alone when it comes to hating the rain and complaining about the rain. You need to vent? I'm your person. I mean, doesn't the rain make you want to just stay in bed all day, wrapped in blankets, watching Netflix or reading a book? Who wants to do actual work? Or have motivation? Not me, that's who.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
