Thank you for all of the times you’ve put up with me, even when you didn’t want to. You were the first person that I go to when I need an example of how a person should be. I know that I may not be that old, but for the years that I have gotten the pleasure of knowing you, I’ve gotten to learn the type of person I want to be when I grow up.
Having an older sister is one of those gifts that you kind of wish that you can return from time to time, but you’re glad you never do. She gets a headstart on life, so that means she gets to do everything way before you do. She gets to buy her first bra, wear makeup, get her license, get caught sneaking out, graduate, and move out, all before you do. To be completely honest, I’m the youngest in my family, so I got to watch my sister do a whole lot of things before I did.
My older sister is a little over ten years older than me, if yours is too, then you can relate to what i’m about to say. My sister is very much like a parental figure to me, the age gap between us made it this way. Having a sister that is that much older than me makes it very hard to have a close relationship. Her being so much older than me also makes me feel like I have an extra parent, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because this means that I have another person to make sure I don’t dissapoint. I am thankful that I have a much older sister, because she has lived through many different things and she knows how to help me through almost any situation.
Now, I know that not many do have older sisters with that big of an age gap, but no matter what the difference, the title of “The Older Sister” is one that should always be held with pride.
If you’re an older sister, always remember, your little sister looks up to you so much.
As siblings, we fight and argue, but that is what we do, the love is never gone. I wouldn’t want to steal clothes from anyone else’s closet, or hear makeup tips from anybody else. I’m sure mom and dad hated all of the things that we did when we were growing up, so it’s okay that you blamed me. You may be older, but we’ll always be their little girls. Thank you for always being blunt when I asked if what I was wearing looked good or not. Thank you for putting up with me, no matter how dramatic I got. Thank you for listening to me whine and cry about the thing that never really mattered. Thank you for giving me my first nephew. I have gotten the privilege to grow this far with you, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us. We’re friends by choice, but you’re stuck being my sister.
And again, thank you for showing me the type of person that I want to be when I grow up.
