They say it takes a village to raise a child. Your village may consist of an eclectic group of people: your parents, other family members, friends’ families, church leaders and teachers. These are all people who have helped to shape the person you are today. Your parents obviously are the most influential, but there's always that one couple that is like a second set of parents. For me personally, it's my Aunt Dani and Uncle Ned.
You're part of their family.
Maybe you're literally family, but they love you like you're their own kid. You’ve been on vacations with them and go to their children's events. Their biological children are like siblings to you. Strangers occasionally may even confuse for being one of their children because they have seen you with them so often. It’s insisted upon that this couple meets and approves of your newest love interest. If you don’t get the stamp of approval from them or your parents, you know its just best to move on.
You have an extra set of hands in your corner ready to fight for you regardless the circumstances.
You talk to them just as much as you talk to your own parents. You keep them updated on all the drama going on in your life. They keep an open heart and mind when it comes to listening to your problems and are always ready to listen. It’s important to you to keep them updated on every aspect of your life and to be updated on theirs too. This added support system is so important. You honestly never know what could happen and this couple is a steady rock in your life. The relationship you share with them is so significant that you can't imagine life without them.
Adventures with them keep life interesting.
You're invited to all of their adventures. Whether it be a vacation, family outing, or a hot summer day on the water somewhere. All the laughs, inside jokes and fun have been a safe haven for you where you can hide from the stresses of life. You honestly never know what you're going to get into with them involved. You just fly by the seat of your pants because you know it'll be a great time no matter what.
Perfect combination of parents and best friend.
While it isn't your parents' job to be your friend, this couple has more leeway. They can be your best friend and a parental figure. This aspect of the relationship enhances it so much more. You have this special balance of a best friend who also has your best interest at heart. They are there to talk, cry, laugh and even be ready to fight who ever has crossed you. If you text them telling them to bring a shovel, they would. But they probably would already be there, shovel in hand.
I have no clue where I would be without my aunt and uncle. I know that if you have a special relationship like this, you will agree with me. I cannot even begin to thank them for everything they have done for me. All I can hope is that these people in our lives know that they hold a very special place in our hearts and they always will.
