Netflix: Is it taking over our lives? While some people think that Netflix is a wonderful luxury and use it in small portions, others enjoy "binge watching" their favorite television shows. Either way Netflix is often enjoyed by people everywhere. My roommate and I rarely even use our TV in our dorm room because we're too busy watching our separate Netflix shows on our iPads. Talk about bonding!
There are so many benefits to watching Netflix: being able to watch it anywhere at anytime (with WiFi), having access to a variety of movies and shows, and sharing the password with friends so that they can watch, too (you didn't hear that one from me). Just last week I was able to watch Netflix in Dunkin Donuts using their free wifi. It's so convenient and easy! But is this really the best way to use your time?
As a college student, I already have a lot on my plate including classes, school work, maintaining time with friends and family, as well as any other extra activities. Do I really have extra time to squeeze in a new season of a show every week? Probably not. Do I attempt to? Of course! Did I procrastinate writing this article because of Netflix? Oh yes.
So these points lead back to the original question - Netflix: Is it taking over our lives? It may not be taking over our lives completely, but I know that with every 45 minutes I spend watching a new episode it is taking away 45 that I could be spending doing something much more productive. Many people may be making it a "new years resolution" to use technology less, and by using Netflix less, I'm sure I could do better in my classes, as well as spend more time with friends.
But without Netflix, how can you continue those imaginary friendships you've already made with the characters on your favorite shows? Maybe Netflix opens up a new world for you to relax your mind. Or maybe you just have too much time and find that Netflix is the best way to use it. Sometimes Netflix can even be an escape from stress. Overall, watch Netflix at your leisure, but don't forget to stop every now and then to spend your time being a little more productive.
