Ah, Fall semester. It's always such a perfect time. You get back to school late August, early September with a fresh, perfectly tanned body and rejuvenated mind set. We've just had three months to relax, hang out with friends and family, away from Greek life, but now we're eager to get back into the swing of things. The one college activity that everyone is excited to get back to is tailgating.
There's nothing quite like waking up on a Saturday morning and opening your blinds to a perfect sunny day. You put on your freshly bought game day outfit with your cowboy boots and Kendra's that bleed your school colors. You put on those tacky but cute face tattoos with your schools mascot on them while grabbing your cutest koozie. You and your friends start working your way over to the football field parking lot where you're so happy you could almost cry. Everyone has missed football season. Everyone is just always in a good mood when you're at tailgate. What's not to love about this beautiful college tradition?
There's always free food, free reusable cups, free koozies, and of course, free beer. It's a college kid's dream. Free, free, free.
You have your choice of hanging out at your favorite fraternity's tent, or you can make numerous frat laps to see who's all enjoying today's festivities. Typically, at every tent you go to there will be some sort of game to play. There's the typical drinking games of beer pong, chandelier, or king's cup. But there's also the usual tailgating games such as corn hole or washers. Occasionally, you'll even see your school mascot walking around and of course you'll want to take a picture with him.
There's always that one tent that has the huge speakers that blare any kind of music to out do everyone else. You might even see yourself jumping in on some of the dances if it's Wobble, K Wang, Footloose, or Copperhead Road. You may even meet some new friends in the making.
Most of the students don't actually go to the game (Twitter will keep us updated on the score) so once you hear the first kick about to start, then you know it's time to head over to the favorite local Bar & Grill where your not just secluded with your friends, but somehow you form this huge table of what feels like everyone who was at tailgate. Of course afterwards you go back home for a few hours to freshen up and change in preparations for a night out at the favorite local bar(s).
So, for any potential freshman reading this, this is coming from an incoming senior: take advantage of your tailgating season. Don't just sit in your dorm and watch Netflix on a home game day. Go out and meet new people and see what football season is all about! Trust me, it's worth it.
