Just because winter is here doesn't mean you need to be stuck at home on the weekends. With just a little effort, date nights are still possible. The capital region has plenty of fun and romantic entertainment options for those who want to stay in the cozy indoors and those who want to brave the chilly outdoors. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season it’s easy to put your love life on the back burner due to added expenses. Since I’m a hopeless romantic, I’m always on the lookout on how to add a sprinkle of thoughtfulness without breaking the bank. I’ve created a go to list of inexpensive winter date night ideas. I would love to hear how you spend date night during the winter months so make sure to leave a comment!
1. Ice skating is free at the rink at Empire State Plaza. Skate rentals are only $4.00 and it’s open from 11 AM-8 PM, weather permitting, of course.

2. Catch a hockey game at the Times Union Center. The Albany Devils play from October through April. There are a variety of drinks and foods to purchase at the arena and every month they have special promotional nights such as 70s Night, $10 Holiday Special, Party Like It's 1999, and many others. Throw on a cute jersey and go cheer on your team! If tickets are not in your price range, then head to a local bar and scream at the TV.
3. On the last Friday of every month from 5-9 PM, check out Troy Night Out. It is a monthly arts and cultural event that regularly draws thousands people onto the streets of Downtown Troy. Attendees are able to enjoy countless art events, music venues, and fine restaurants as well as unique boutiques of all varieties
4. Everyone loves a good laugh so bring your date to one of Albany's stand-up comedy clubs. The Funny Bone in Crossgates Mall, or The Comedy Works which also offers a dinner and show option.
5. The 20th Annual Price Chopper/Market 32 Capital Holiday Lights in the Park runs from November 25, 2016 until January 2, 2017. Sundays through Thursdays: 6-9 PM. Fridays and Saturdays: 6-10 PM. The Washington Park Lake House is open for activities from 6-9 PM Sundays through Thursdays and from 6-10 PM Fridays and Saturdays.
6. The classic dinner and a movie date. Madison Avenue has a small strip of restaurants near the corner of Madison Avenue and South Allen Street. You can start with dinner and drinks at The Point, Junior's Bar & Grill or Madison Pour House. A short walk down the street will take you to Madison Theatre where you can catch a movie for just $5.00.
7. Feeling a little competitive? Dave and Buster's at Crossgates Mall can make for a fun time on any kind of date. They have arcade games, video games and electronic trivia games. If you get hungry sit down and order food at their restaurant area or try any of Crossgate's restaurants like World of Beer, The Melting Pot or The Standard.
