From the U of I to the WSU community, the neighbor cities of Moscow and Pullman boast quite the delectable food joints for Cougars and Vandals. As a self proclaimed Foodie, someone with a particular interest in food, I have made it my mission to explore these culinary attractions. Here are just a few local eateries I recently visited (and worship).
Mickeys
A local favorite located on Main Street, this restaurant is known for their Greek influence, gyros, and good prices. From crisp Baklava to their selection of tap beer, it is a great place to grab a bite as a college student.
The ambience here is eclectic with a very bohemian feel. I mean the store next door is Tye Dye Everything... Regardless how you feel about it though, looking around you can't help but feel charmed. From student groups holding meetings to the locals that come in every week, you can instantly tell it's meant for the community. There can be quite the crowd, remember you can always take things to go.
Moscow Alehouse
Moscow Alehouse is exactly what it sells itself as... Moscow's Alehouse. This isn't just a local favorite, but a local staple. From the huckleberry barbecue sauce to their amazingly attentive staff, if you want a taste of Moscow you have got to stop here.
On Tuesday's they are famous for their Trivia Nights, a combination of eating, drinking, and answering questions about the most random of things. If you are competitive you may want to lay your team off drinks before you start.
Old European
I may have said it before, but my love for brunch is extensive. Maybe it's "Gossip Girl" that got me into the whole brunch thing, or possibly just the magical ability of breakfast food, but Old European literally may be my holy place.
From French pressed coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice, everything here seems to be made the old fashion way. If you're visiting, getting Aebleskivers is a must -- they are basically pancakes spheres of epic delight. Think of your ideal perfect breakfast, and I'm sure they can provide.
South Fork
A simple menu with the best ingredients, South Fork is an American Pub with a kickass twist. I'd be willing to go out on a limb and promise you can find something for every type of food eater here. From the pickiest of eaters, to the foodies with the highest standards.
While I was there I had their mac and cheese with bacon and rich Cougar Gold cheese straight from the WSU Creamery, salad wraps, and sliders topped with sweet tomato chutney, caramelized onions & tzatziki. To die for.
Not everyone may know about the Palouse, but this community has food that is straight up gold. Whether you're a local or coming from a bigger city, walk around and eat like the locals do.
