Although Moscow is a small town, something great about it is how many cool local businesses it has. Here are some of the best foods that you can only get when you're in Moscow, Idaho.
Cougar Gold Mac & Cheese from Nectar.
As if Macaroni and Cheese is not already one of the best comfort foods of all time, now there is a version made with Cougar Gold Cheese. Cougar Gold Cheese is one of the best food items produced in the Pacific Northwest. It has the effect of a sharp cheese but is also super creamy and made at Washington State University’s Creamery! This meal is heaven in your mouth.
Stuffed Biscuits and Gravy from the Breakfast Club.
Truthfully, you could order just about anything from the Breakfast Club and it would be divine, but their stuffed biscuits and gravy are to die for. This dish takes breakfast to a whole new level. With a bed of hash browns, bacon, a biscuit, gravy and an over easy egg how could you go wrong? This is a must have and while you’re at it, order a side of the huckleberry zucchini bread, you won’t be mad you did.
Enchiladas A La Crema from La Casa Lopez.
If two for one margaritas is not already a good enough reason to go to La Casa Lopez then these enchiladas are. I am convinced they put crack in them because they are seriously addicting. At Casa, the food on your plate is always piping hot and you get a lot of it, so leftovers for day. Extra bonus: you always get a serving of their bomb family recipe bean dip and salsa whenever you visit, and you can’t find anything like it in town. Pure heaven.
A steamed cookie from The Bagel Shop.
If you are ever having a sweet tooth, but don’t feel like making a huge batch of cookies, have no fear, the Bagel Shop has your back. Although the Bagel Shop is known for their incredibly perfect steamed bagels (rightfully so) their cookies certainly do not get the recognition they deserve. What may appear to be an ordinary cookie is a sweet masterpiece after they steam it up. This will be the softest most melt-in-your-mouth dessert you will ever eat, plus it’s super inexpensive. Bonus!
Spicy Teryaki Chicken and Noodles from Loco Grinz.
Loco Grinz is easily one of the most underrated places to eat in Moscow. They provide hot, fresh and traditional Hawaiian food in a sit-down kind of way, but in a casual setting. Whenever you are feeling like some really good hot food but don’t want to have to get dressed up like you do for a sit down, Loco Grinz is the place to go. Their teriyaki chicken and noodles will make you feel like you are at a Hawaiian Luau in the middle of Idaho.
Mini Donuts from Buy the Dozen Donuts.
These donuts give Krispy Kreme a run for their money. Buy the Dozen Donuts is always posted up on the corner of 6th and Main St during the Farmer’s Market, and always has one of the longest lines there. You can order donuts that are already made and frosted or you can order a dozen mini donuts that are fried right before your eyes. After they send the mini donuts through the fryer, you pick a flavor you want for them. You can get anything from glaze to their special sugars such as lavender or Oreo and the best part about it is the donuts are HOT.
The Holiday from Stax.
Just like most of the places I am listing, basically everything from Stax is delicious but this sandwich is so unique. The Holiday has everything you love about a turkey dinner in sandwich form. With turkey, cranberry cream cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts, this sandwich takes you back to Mom’s home cooking in just a few bites.
Eggs Benedict from Bloom.
To be honest, there is not much to say about this except for the fact that it’s just dang good eggs benny. I have eaten a lot of eggs benedict in my day and Bloom’s is by far my favorite. Also, if you’re feeling adventurous, order a side of their doughnut holes (again with the doughnuts!). They are cheap and add a little sweetness to a savory meal.
Ribs from CD’s Smoke Pit.
CD’s is some of the best barbecue food you will ever eat and their ribs are no exception. The ribs at CD’s practically fall off the bone and their sauce is so good it’ll have you licking your fingers clean. Add a side of their potato salad and you will be one happy camper.
The Parma pizza from Maialina.
For those of you who are new to the concept of more authentic Italian pizza this is a great place to start. This pizza is covered in local arugula, mozzarella and prosciutto. This pizza is so fresh that it’s guilt-free. Maialina uses local and fresh ingredients in all of their food and you can taste and feel the difference. Although some say their food is a little pricey, go after 9 pm any night of the week, order a drink, and you get your pizza for half the price.
A South of the Border Pizza from the Last Frontier Pizza Co.
Speaking of pizza, this one is amazing. If thicker crust is more your thing, then swing by The Last Frontier or order online. Although the crust on this pizza is simple, it’s one of my favorite for how fluffy and perfect it is. The South of the Border pizza has grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, cilantro, a little bit of lime, onions and their delicious chipotle sauce. This has everything you love about with a fun twist.
