If you go to UW Madison, you've undeniably seen the endless array of food trucks that border Library Mall. Whether you're heading to Memorial Library or walking toward the Student Union, the food trucks are the bread and butter of Madison. From Asian, like "Hibachi Hut" cuisine to American classics, like “Fried and Fabulous,” the food trucks are rapidly becoming the most popular lunch options in Madison.
If you're in a rush and simply don't have the time to sit down and be waited on for lunch, I urge you to check out the food trucks because there is sure to be an option to satisfy your craving.
1. Fresh Cool Drinks
Without a doubt, my go-to food cart is Fresh Cool Drinks. However, don't be fooled by the name, because this truck offers far more than solely drinks. The choices of smoothies, however, seem almost endless, as the ingredient list is filled with all the fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your body healthy and happy at any time of the day. Also offered is classic Vietnamese food, such as pad Thai, tofu curry, and most sorority girls’ favorite- veggie spring rolls. When you think spring roll, don't think fried and greasy, but rather fresh vegetables and ripe avocado wrapped in a sticky rice paper and spiced to your particular desire.
2.Umami buns
If you’re a meat lover, Umami buns are a must. Pulled pork sandwiched between two fluffy, yet moist buns. Umami offers sides like wonton chips to satisfy that crunch or even edamame as a perfect little pick-me-up snack. Try the oven roasted pork belly, the Korean BBQ beef, or the spicy pan-fried tofu if you're not a meat-eater and you will not be disappointed.
3. Toast
Toast was originally suggested to me by my friend when I was sick and in dire-need of warm chicken noodle soup. Of course, I couldn't go for just soup and not try a freshly pressed warm panini. What attracted me most was the option to “Build your own” panini, which is great for picky eaters. Go for a panini with a side of home made lemonade, for a classic, feel-good, American style lunch that will leave you wanting to come back for more.
4. Banzo
Even when it's twenty degrees out, the Banzo food truck will be attracting a line of people, loyal to their authentic tasting Mediterranean cuisine. The falafel is crisp, but not burnt, and flavorful, but not too overpowering. You can't go wrong with a hummus and pita or even the chicken and rice platter. Banzo’s portions are favorable and extremely tasty and affordable.
In short, food trucks are as good as it gets. If the music playing as you stroll past them on your way to Bascom doesn't attract you, the aroma of fresh food made right in front of you on a beautiful fall day will definitely do the trick.
