Following Your Passions

Do you know what it is like doing something that you love? Is it something you always dreamed of? Having passions for things is similar to eating a piece of cake or having a bowl of delicious ice cream. You feel satisfaction and pleasure. It makes you feel happy and accomplished at once.

Ever since I came to Hanover College, I have signed up for Theatre, which I have a huge interest in. I am in the Theatre Club, the Theatre Tech group, and I have also signed up for the Student Broadcasting Association, which works with broadcasting and journalism. These two things I have tremendous interest in. I have been working for Theatre and I am taking an introductory course in Theatre. So far, I am enjoying reading the plays in class and analyzing them for depth, while talking about the stage development in the play as well.

I plan to work with Communications and Theatre courses so that I can have Communications as my major and Theatre as my minor. I find myself excited to go to Theatre class Tuesdays and Thursdays. I look forward to each session and what I will learn that day. I am more happy than what I was in high school. I did Communications work in high school that I did enjoy. I was on the student newspaper organization for my school, while interning for my town's newspaper, giving me experience outside the school. I have planned to major in Communications for a while now and Theatre seemed intriguing to me, because I am a huge Shakespeare fan.

There is an tremendous opportunity for me in my freshmen year. There is an upcoming trip to England to see the Shakespeare Company and I will have a chance to listen to Shakespeare lectures. I have never been outside the U.S. in my whole life. That sounds like an adventure of a lifetime for me. It makes me very excited that I have an opportunity like this in my grasp. I love Shakespeare's work and I can meet other people who share the same opinions of mine. This is what happens when you follow your dreams and do what you want to do. Life gives you splendid opportunities to go beyond than just working the job you love. You can expand your horizons and learn more within the field. You will find yourself enjoying it even more.

Following your dreams is a big deal. Can you imagine finding yourself a job that you do not want and you are stuck with it? I cannot. That is why it is important that you find yourself a job with a passion in your heart that tells you 'this is what you want to do.' And you will be sure that it is indeed what you want to do. You will lead a life of true passion, happiness, and pleasure if you find something you have been waiting for for a very long time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
