You can do this. You can achieve your goals. In fact, you can do whatever your heart desires, as long as you believe in yourself. Because there is nobody like you, and nobody can do what you can. Be the difference you wish to see in the world.
Inspired yet? If not, all I've got to do is put my vague and unoriginal words into a pretty font and spread them across a sunset (which happens everywhere, every single day) to get your immediate attention. You'll say my words, or something similar, in advice to your best friend, or you'll post it on somebody's Facebook Timeline, or maybe you'll hang up my sunset poetry masterpiece in your bathroom and take a look at it every time you realize you've forgotten your phone in the living room. They are comfort words; they sound nice and safe and probably nobody will bat an eye at them--until they realize that those words could have inspired Adolf Hitler to invade Poland and establish Germany as a terrifying, cold-blooded nation capable of destroying millions of people.
But hey, you should always do what makes you happy, right? Just be yourself, everything else will fall into place. Have you ever noticed that these inspirational phrases focus mainly on promoting a strong sense of self, even though the words themselves are coming from someone else? It's as if your bedroom poster, which was mass produced for profit after being lazily penned by a guy with a faded mustache and a Hallmark deadline, is telling you to inspire yourself. "You don't need anybody else! Don't let others try to control your life (except me!)."
Maybe I'm doing the same thing right now--putting words together, trying to get you to put your own words together based on your own specific situation. My point is, you are perfectly capable of being your own inspiration. You know what you can do, what you should do, and what you would do if you were in your shoes (because you already are!).
At the very least, just try to eliminate meaningless motivation, because you know that it isn't really doing much for you. Caption your profile pictures with your own sayings or your own memories. If your friend is having a bad night, remind them of an inside joke that you share, or bring them some ice cream--I know I would appreciate that more than "Time is the best medicine."
So the next time someone tells you to follow your dreams, let them know that your dreams are to murder six million people. See how they respond. No, really, do that. Or don't. Whatever. Just...be yourself.
