Flying From Naples To Kansas Is Hard

For most people flying, they do not have a difficult time. But mine was quite different.

My flight from Naples (my host country) to Kansas (my home) was supposed to only take about 13 hours, but it ended up being 83.5 hours! Before coming to Italy, I had never taken a plane across the seas.

I was grateful my parents were with me for my flight back because we had cancellation after cancellation. My journey was quite memorable.

1. "Departure": Napoli, Italy - Newark, New Jersey

The initial departure was supposed to be July 10that 9:55 am (ROMA), but we were on the terminal for five hours, until they finally told us "our flight was canceled due to various reasons". And the next possible flight was tomorrow at 9:30 am (ROMA).

2. Departure: Naples, Italy – Newark, New Jersey

Once we arrived to leave Naples, they had two planes going to the same place but one hour later. Our ticket said that we were leaving with the first group filled with all the others whose flight got canceled. Right as we were starting to board, they told us we were actually the 2ndflight. We also had an hour delay which made us miss our connecting flight from Newark to Chicago. 10 minutes before landing in Newark, I had a massive migraine from the change of air pressure.

3. Departure: Newark, New Jersey - Kansas City, Missouri?

Once we arrived at the airport, I couldn't walk without falling over, so I got to get a ride in a wheelchair. Which has its perks because originally we had about 1 hour to get through security, get our new tickets, and then go through customs. We got to go to the front of the line, and we got a direct flight to Kansas City. 10 minutes before boarding the flight to Kansas City, they say our flight was canceled due to "The crew has worked too many hours" and also "due to bad weather".

4. Departure: Newark, New Jersey - Houston, Texas

2 days later, and one less sleep deprived day, we made it to Houston. That was our only "normal" flight.

5. Departure: Houston, Texas - Kansas City, Missouri

We waited for twos hours because we weren't going to miss our last flight. And then about 20 minutes before our original flight time, they said that "The crew has not arrived yet, so we cannot let you board yet".

They arrived about 10 minutes before our flight left. Once we were boarding we noticed how small the plane was, it fit about 70 people.

I really never thought I would miss Kansas, but after this flight, I was so excited to come back home where everything was normal.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
