Each year, thousands of college students flock to the warm sandy beaches of Florida for spring break. Come March through April you can expect to see drunken college students taking over Daytona, Key West, and Panama City Beach. But for those that grew up basking in the rays of the Sunshine State, we know that we don't have to limit our spring break to a mere week long occurrence. No, we get to enjoy this beautiful state every day of the year (minus when the weather has a mood swing and goes from 80 to 40 overnight). We have the luxury of not living in a landlocked state, where the closest thing to a beach is a tropical themed party at someone's house while it's snowing outside.
Ever since I've been able to drive myself, my friends and I would drive over to the beach after school just because we could. The only thing that stood between me and the beach was a 40 minute car ride, what could beat that? Even while I was home this past winter break, I managed to make it out to the beach one afternoon with a friend. That's the beauty of living in Florida. No matter where you are, there is a very high probability that you are at least within an hour or two of a beach.
Florida's spring break scene is unlike any other. The possibilities are endless on where you can decide to go to enjoy the warm weather, beautiful women, and good times. Panama City Beach might as well be the spring break capital of the world. MTV has been filming spring breaks there since the 90's and still do to this day. The party lasts nearly a month long due to the fact that spring breaks vary from school to school. The next best choice is Daytona Beach. Don't believe me? Brad Paisley dedicated a whole verse in a song to it.
Attending Florida State does allow students another perk that other college students don't. As I stated earlier, Panama City Beach is in spring break mode for most of March and April. This means that even when our spring break is over, there's still a party going on two hours west. Bored with no plans for the weekend? Take a day trip over and relive that week of freedom you had earlier in the semester. Maybe go to Club Lavela for a night and show those northerners what it's like to party in the "Tallanasty." Spring Weekend is also slowly releasing the artists who are playing (Zed's Dead and 3LAU to name a few), which only adds to the possibilities for the fun to be had.
Our beautiful state we call home is 1,350 miles of beautiful coastline filled with the best weather and spring breaks known to man. And for that, I'm thankful to call Florida my home.
As always, drink responsibly.
