The season finale of "The Flash" happened this past Tuesday, and I have to say that this is one of the best finales that I have seen on TV. In its only second season on TV, "The Flash" is one of the No. 1 shows that is produced on the CW and an absolute favorite to comic book fans everywhere. For those that haven’t seen any part of the second season yet, be forewarned that some spoilers lie ahead. In the season finale, we are left off with emotional Barry Allen, who just witnessed his father being murdered in cold blood by Zoom. Barry is now parentless. Zoom has taken so much from Barry in the time that they have battled against each other, and now this is the final straw. After the funeral of Barry’s father, Zoom challenges to a race to settle who is the fastest man alive, and Barry is more than willing to race for the title. The real reason he is doing it is because he wants to avenge his father’s death, so he didn’t die in vain. Barry is too emotionally involved and not thinking clearly. He was approached by Joe West, and Joe has the best intentions for Barry, but Joe and the rest of the team feel that he shouldn’t race against Zoom. Barry and Joe are arguing, and out of nowhere, Harrison Wells from Earth-2 shoots Barry with a tranquilizer. At this point in the episode, I was baffled that both Joe and Harrison thought that it would be a good idea to shoot Barry and lock him up with Zoom still on the loose. Barry is the only one that has the super abilities to keep up with Zoom and hopefully defeat him. With Barry in time out, Cisco, Iris, Joe, Harrison, Jessie and Caitlyn devise a plan to bring down Zoom and hopefully force him back into a breach to Earth-2 and close the breach.
I’m not going to give everything away, but let’s just say that this plan doesn’t pan out fully. Zoom does end up back on Earth-2, but he took someone with him as a hostage. Barry is still in timeout, Wally finds out that Barry has been locked up and frees him. Wally needs his help with rescuing the hostage that was taken by Zoom, who I will not name. Cisco has meta-human abilities and can transport people between dimensions and transports Barry to Earth-2 to challenge Zoom to the race in return for the hostage. This is where it is going to get a little confusing, but there is a theory called the multiverse theory. This theory suggests that there are other earths in different dimensions and that we as people all have a doppelganger that inhabits these other earths. Zoom’s plan is he wants to use his speed and Barry’s to power a device that can destroy all the earth’s in the multiverse except for Earth-1, which is the earth that is the center of the multiverse.
Now that I have caught you up, you will have to watch the season finale to see what happens and what is the fate of the Flash. I gave this episode a five out of five stars because the story was fantastically written and the acting was great as well. There were a lot of characters that don’t get that much airtime in previous episodes and they stole the spotlight in this episode. This episode was tugging on the heart strings of their viewers, including me. To all the fans of DC Comics, there were many hidden Easter eggs that were embedded in this episode and have me thinking about what the third season will entail. I have a suspicion of what the next season will be about, and let’s just say that it will be a paradox.
