Relationships are complicated. Having to deal with someone who is likely to be completely different than you is messy. And coupling that with an emotional concoction of jealousy, love, aggravation and uncertainty often makes people do some weird things.
Some people thrive in relationships, and others get a little bit psychotic.
Being on the outside of a relationship, watching a couple interact and behave, provides a lot of insight into what not to do and what not to be when you are in a relationship.
Some couples are fun and functional and healthy, and others are a miserable mess.
I know people have their good days and their bad days in relationships, but I pray I’m never like any of these couples because truthfully, they just suck.
1. The Couple that Always Fights
There is arguably nothing worse than the couple that shouldn’t be a couple. Yes, relationships can be roller coasters, but if your fighting is something so frequent that you can’t go into any situation without some sort of huge conflict complete with screaming, crying, eye-rolling and below-the-belt jabs, then something is majorly wrong. Being around this couple is extremely uncomfortable, too. You’re forced to choose sides and are constantly coerced into giving half-hearted advice. No one wants drama in their life, especially if it has nothing to do with them. Take this nonsense elsewhere, please.
2. The PDA Couple
We get it. You two are so smitten and in love that it’s impossible to keep your hands off of each other. Everyone is thrilled that the relationship is going so well, but no one wants to see the excessive groping, cuddling, caressing or kissing that goes on. It’s cute for about a minute but then quickly gets old and disgusting. Act like civilized humans and have some respect for others around you.
3. The Co-dependent Couple
This duo is comprised of people who cannot do a single thing without including the other. And if they’re both not physically there, then you can bet that a play-by-play is being texted. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, I promise, and if you can’t spend a minute apart then there are some underlying issues going on.
4. The Couple Who Acts Like They’re Not a Couple
I truthfully think it’s great when people are casual and relaxed about their relationship, but there’s a point where it really doesn’t make sense for two people to even be together. If there’s no sort of attachment or affection, then maybe being friends is the better path to take. Otherwise, you’re just confusing the people around you. Are you together? Are you just platonic friends? What exactly is going on here?
5. The Instagram Crazy Couple
A handful of cute couple pics is appreciated. Everyone enjoys a small amount of pictures of thoughtful dates or adorable candids. If every single picture is of the other person or, even worse, a #wcw or #mcm, then tone it down. A few pictures make people smile enviously. Too many pictures make people vomit in their mouths. Tact and tastefulness is key.
