Okay, so ya girl is officially in mini-style-blogger mode. For this piece I would really like to talk to you all about different hairstyles to try for the new year!
Personally, I love changing my look up constantly. It makes me feel free and versatile, and beyond that I just really like trying new things. A few years ago I cut about six inches off of my hair. I had always played with it, and folded it under so it looked like a lob, but I was way too scared to cut it.
I thought, "what if I hate it?" or "what if it looks weird on me?"
And I was so wrong. I loved it, and I actually kept it that way for two years. Recently, I've been looking into extensions, but I decided against it and I played the waiting game and just grew it out. I really love my hair being long now, and as it gets longer month by month I love how much it's changing my overall "look."
What I'm trying to say is, that I wanted to try something new for so long, and when I finally did it, I was obsessed. So if any of you out there are in need of a serious change, I got you! Here are five ways to change up your hair for 2k17...
1. CHOP IT ALL OFF!
Pull a "me!" Or as I say, pull a Mulan, and cut it all off.
Marie Claire can back me up on this one, in their words it is "the cut that works on everyone"-- and for any of you guys who don't know the "lob" is a long bob but, where hair is cut around shoulder length. Khloe Kardashian did it, Rachel McAdams did it, the Queen Bee herself couldn't resist rocking a lob for a hot second. I will be honest, you will miss the versatility of long hair, but girl, it's so worth it. #InLobWeTrust
Also, I will say if you are already rocking a chic little lob but you want to go shorter, I so root you on. Everyone lost their minds when Emma Watson changed it up with a pixie, but we all know it was adorable. Tyra Banks, Scarlet Johansson, and J-Hud herself all conquered the pixie this year, and you can too.
2. Try a Balayage
Okay, so I also have some personal experience with this one, but so many people do right now. We all remember the craze of the ombre, and we all know it's dead now (sry, not sry). The newest-- and in my opinion the freakin' best-- way to add color and dimension to your hair is the balayage. If you don't know what it is you owe yourself a good googling/Pinterest session. It can be intense and bold or really natural looking and it is so low maintenance. Most stylists I know practically swear by it; so if you are looking for a way to mix up your style without cutting, try mixing it up with color!
3. Do it. Get bangs.
So if you aren't sensing a pattern yet, I will say, I have some experience in the area as well. I have wanted to try bangs for around three years now. I had them when I was little, and I thought they were über cute back then, but every time I brought it up everyone told me not too! Well, jokes on them I did it anyway (after a break-up too, which is like the #1 time not to make decisions like that) AND IT LOOKED GREAT. Ha. So my words of advice here are to 1) do your research and figure out what bangs will work best for your face, 2) when you go to get it done, TALK with your stylist, and 3) longer, shaggy bangs are so in right now, and they grow out really fast (in case you regret the choice).
I am no longer rocking the bangs. I loved them while I had them, but alas they just weren't for me.
My point? Go for it.
4. Go BLONDE
.... but like, the right blonde. I actually have absolutely no experience in this area. It is my next brain child. That or just going real, real short. Anyhoo, I do have a few wise words for going blonde. First of all, when I say the "right" blonde, I mean that there are so many different shades and hews of blonde and you need to find one that suits your coloring the best. Good example: Beyoncé's current look. Bad example: (sry) Taylor Swift going platinum and totally washing herself out.
Next, I will say blonde is a commitment, especially for all my brunette sisters out there. More likely than not, you'll need to get it lightened at least two separate times. This means 2+ appointments, and 2+ bills, so it is expensive, but it's the only way to do it without frying your hair. Your stylist can tell you more, and maybe give you a deal, so I'm going to get to the fun stuff... Being blonde can be so cute! It is a way to keep your length if you want to and completely mix up your look.
If your scared of it being a little too severe see #2 and start yourself off with some balayage, my girl.
5. Style it differently.
Okay, so you like your length, and you like your color, and you're low-key poor AF (@ all my fellow college students out there), but you still need a change: what do you do?!
Style it! This suggestion is not necessarily for the faint-hearted of hair care. We're talking curling irons, bobby pins, hair ties, ribbons, braids, and we're of course talking space buns. If you are someone who is hardly familiar with a blow dryer, I would suggest starting off with a simple wand curling iron (and maybe having a friend give you a quick tutorial). If your styles pretty much begin with pony tails and end with buns, I would try adding accessories. Ribbons look cute, and having visible clips and bobby pins in your hair is very on trend right now. For the girls who are seasoned vets and need something new, I would say try the odd stuff. Space buns are super adorable, faux-hawks are low-key trying to make it back on the scene, and hair tattoos and sparkle parts are the weird styles that everyone is dying to try. For general ideas I highly recommend checking out Pinterest and Refinery 29.
That's all I have for you this time babes. Please check out my other articles and stay tuned for more.
