Without having to adopt the whole shelter

The best thing you can possibly do as a dog/cat lover is to adopt one from the shelters and provide them a loving forever home! But if you’re like me, well you would have the entire shelter in your house by now, and your parents would be pissed. There are other ways in which you can help these fur babies however! I’ve done everything on this list myself and every single time I feel the same gratitude and warmth, knowing that I really am helping the helpless.

1. Donating blankets and old sweaters

Apparently, my dog Sadie had “blanket issues” with other dogs during her time at the humane society. It’s not something most people initially think about, but these dogs don’t have anything. One small piece of cloth can make these dogs feel like they have the whole world because for some, that is the only comfort they have ever known. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Any worn out blankets that you don’t use anymore, consider donating! Sweaters and sweatshirts work just as well if you cut them up.

2. Donating food, cat litter, and cleaning supplies

If you stop by a shelter, it’s always a good idea to ask if there are any specific supplies or items that the shelter is in extra need of. They’ll give you a list. Anything helps, even a money donation.

3. Volunteering

Volunteering can mean a lot of things. You can choose to help out by working one on one with a pet, help with cleaning, or even taking the dogs out for exercise and some quality time. There’s usually always a need for volunteers! No, it’s not a glamorous job but it’s so much more rewarding. (Warning: you will become attached)

4. Plugging the pup

Sometimes I like to visit, just to say hi to the animals! While I’m there sometimes I’ll take pictures and shout an animal or two out on social media if I think they need some extra attention. I can’t tell you how many animal shelter Instagram accounts I follow and they make me want to adopt every single dog, every single post.

5. Considering

Finally, one of the best things you can do for these animals is give them your consideration. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to find your best friend in such a hopeless place. At the end of the day all these animals need is a human’s love.

Be The Hope For The Hopeless.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
