Life is tough, there are so many things we should do, we want to do, and forget to do. As I enter my Junior year of College, I realize there are too many things I have held back on that I have been afraid to do, and that I need to do now. No one wants to look back on their life and have regrets. Therefore I have complied a list of five things you should do right now that you and I both know you should do. Maybe you cannot complete all five things this instant, but make a goal to get these things done, because I've been waiting, you've been waiting, the world has been waiting.
1. TRAVEL.
Now, I'm not saying pack your bags and get on the next plane to Europe, but if you have the opportunity to study abroad in College, or are presented with an experience to get out of your comfort zone, DO IT. Traveling opens you up to new people, new places, and new things. There are obvious fears about going abroad, but you will never be able to know, until you actually just do it. If you are worried about studying abroad, then that is the perfect reason to go. Challenge yourself and find out what you are really capable of. Remember when Lauren Conrad didn't go to Paris because of a boy?
2. FORGIVE.
If you have something eating away at you, or someone who you need to make amends with, then do it. Life is too short to hold grudges or have resentment for anyone. We are all human. We all make mistakes. Be the bigger person and forgive someone who was a part of your life. This does not mean you need to become best friends again, or boyfriend and girlfriend again. It just means you have forgiven someone who once gave you a reason to be happy. Being on good terms with people is one of the best ways to be on good terms with yourself.
3. CALL YOUR FAMILY.
As a college student, I understand the days are long and the hangovers are strong, but it is important to not forget the people who helped you get to where you are. Make it a goal to call home three times a week or send a text every other day. I promise, this will mean so much to, not only your family, but to you as well. Having a support system is so important. Only going to your mom or dad when you need money is not fair. Call your mom and tell her about how you hate your professor. Tell your siblings how you tripped up the stairs on the way to class. A little goes a long way, and in the end, you'll be happy you made the call.
4. WORKOUT.
In College we are filled with so many more stresses than we ever were prepared for - from classwork, seeing friends, studying, to sleeping. All these stresses can bring out a demon in us. I promise, if you can get on the treadmill three times a week, you will see these stresses ease away. Working out is not something you can brush off. Exercise has been proven to relieve stress and depression, and will help you lead a healthier life. So, run off your drunk eats from the other night, bench press the stress out of you, and get ready to look and feel better. A good workout will help you keep your head focused, body centered, and organs alive.
5. LIVE IN THE MOMENT.
Life is short, we know that. Therefore it is important that you don't take anything for granted. Do not think about next week, next month, or next year, and definitely do not dwell in the past. Enjoy every morning, each and every meal, every person you meet, and every sunset you see. Document your days and you will see how much there is to be thankful for. There's no day but today, soak it in.
