When you’re a kid, especially around Thanksgiving time, everyone asks you what you’re thankful for. Kids usually have cute responses like being thankful for pumpkin pie or for turkey, but what they don’t know is that Thanksgiving isn’t just a time to be thankful for things specific to that day, or holiday; it is a time to be thankful for what you have all year around, especially the things that you might have that others don’t.
1.Your parents
Your parents have been your biggest fans and largest supporters from the day they found out they were going to have you. They have seen you at your worst and know how to get you back to your best. Parents, a lot of the time, are taken for granted. Children are just so used to their parents being there for them all the time and doing every thing that they need, that they don’t tend to realize how much they relied on them until they get to college. Once you get to college you start to realize how much your parents did for you and how lost you actually are without them helping you with simple things like making dinner or doing laundry. This Thanksgiving, make sure you give your parents an extra squeeze and make sure they know how much you love them.
2.Your friends
Similar to your parents, your friends are some of your biggest fans. Your friends have supported you during your low times and have laughed with you during your happier times. They are most likely in the same situations as you, so they are aware of how stressful school, and homework, is. They know the struggles of trying to balance a perfect GPA along with have a large social life. Your friends are there for you at any time of the day or night, for whatever you might need. They are there is you want to laugh, cry, eat or just watch Netflix. We usually don’t realize how much our friends do for us, or how much it means to us jus having them around, until they go home for a weekend or can’t go out one night. Make sure you take the time to tell your friends how much you appreciate them.
3.Your significant other
Your significant other has to deal with you, similar to your family and your friends, during all of your crazy mood swings, They are there when you want to cuddle or have your hair played with, but they are also there when you hate the entire world. They have to love you during all of you ups and downs, and the crazy part is, they don’t even think about it because they just love you so much. Yu can yell at them for hours, or not speak to them for a day, and they will welcome you back with open arms after you realize life would unbearable without them in it. Make sure you take the time to remember that people don’t have to stick around forever. It’s important that you make sure that those people around are aware of how much they mean to you and how lucky you are to have them in your life.
4.Your health
Everyone takes their health for granted; especially the simple things like not having a kink in your neck or being able to breathe freely out of your nose. Health is something that a lot of people are not thankful for, or rarely think about, until they are sick or someone they know is sick. Personally, I never realized how much I turn my neck side to side until I pulled a muscle in it. We should all be thankful for our everyday health.
5.Your home
A lot of people are not fortunate enough to have their own home, or any home at all. I recently went into a city and saw many homeless people sleeping on the side of the street. It made me think about how fortunate I am to have a warm, guaranteed place to sleep each and every night. Like so many things, having a place to sleep is often seen as normal in our society and is, therefore, taken for granted. Everyone should be thankful for being able to have a safe place to sleep.
