Finally. After a long two weeks of stuDYING, writing essays, stress eating, crying, taking tests, doing some more stuDYING, we made it. Finals week is over, the semester is over and the days of relaxing, sleeping in, hanging with your family and friends and enjoying the holidays are finally here! But if you're anything like me, there's a possibility that after a few days of sleeping and watching Netflix, you might start to get a little bit bored. So here are 5 things you can do to keep yourself from getting a little bit crazy while waiting to get back to school.
1. Do something with your friends-go ice skating, go into the city, see a movie, go out to a fancy dinner etc., instead of just hanging out in someone's basement.
You spent most of high school hanging out in your friend's basement having the best of times. Or sometimes you spent it laying on their couch and just watching movies all day. So instead of doing that all over again, go out and do something with the people who helped you get through some of the hardest years of your life. Dress up and go out to a fancy dinner or go play in the snow (if there is any) or go ice skating or take advantage of all the fun holiday things going on in your town this time of year. It's a for sure way to keep you from getting bored and a for sure way to make some new memories.
2. Volunteer
While the holiday's are about spending time with family and friends and enjoying all the spirit that comes with the holiday, it's also important to remember that not everyone will have the holiday that you will have. Most of us have at least 3 weeks off of school, so take the time to help out your local community. Maybe participate in a holiday food or gift drive by not just donating, but helping to distribute them as well. Volunteer at your local hospital, or maybe participate in a program that allows you to play and spend time with young kids; reading to them or just simply talking to them. Not only will you be able to help out someone else, but you'll feel good doing it too. And you'll make someone else's holiday a whole lot better by just spending a little bit of time.
3. Work
We've all had at least one summer job growing up. Usually it was being a camp counselor or lifeguarding or working at the local ice cream store. Take these next few weeks to get back to that job-even though it's only for a short amount of time. It'll give you the chance to get some pocket money-which will allow you to do some fun things when you get back to school!
4. Go to the gym
Ew. I'm not really someone who loves to go to the gym for extended periods of time (personally, I'd rather sit on the couch eating ice cream and watching Grey's Anatomy...). But with our busy schedules at school, sometimes the gym is the last thing we want to do or think about. So take the time this break to hit the gym and stay active. It's a sure way to make sure you aren't bored and it's also a great way to stay in shape (for all the stress ice cream that will be eaten when school starts up again).
5. Pick up your favorite hobby all over again
We all have them. Whether it be reading, baking, playing sports, hiking, working out, playing board games etc. Take the next few weeks to spend some time doing some of your favorite things (other than watching Netflix), or even some of the things that you haven't done in a while. It'll be a good way to spark some memories, try something new, and keep yourself from getting bored over break.
