I swear I was born loud. My voice has always been louder than everyone else’s. My sister is really loud too. It is just in our nature. Some days I like to blame it on the fact that I am Italian, other days I just know I am loud. I have been told my whole life that I am loud, and it used to bother me, but now I embrace it. I tell people that I have a lot to say and I talk loud so that you can hear me! Today, I (along with my sister) have compiled a list of five things we have heard because we lead LOUD lives.
1. "I'm right in front of you, you don't have to yell."
Oops. Sorry. That’s just my normal voice. I don’t even think I am yelling, but apparently I am. I sound just the same as everyone else—at least that’s what I think. Sometimes, on accident, my voice is a lot louder than it normally is and I scare people. Now, those incidents are definitely on accident.
2. "I can hear you from a mile away."
Oh, really? Good. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard this one. Sometimes I want to say “even I know I’m not that loud.” I still don’t even feel like I talk loud. It just sounds normal to me. I bet it would be really impressive if my voice could carry that far.
3."Don't you know how to whisper?"
This one really gets me. I suppose my normal voice is yelling and my whisper voice is how everyone else talks. I’m glad that I have my sister to accompany me in my loudness. Then again, she sounds like the normal one to me and everyone else just sounds quiet.
4. You're automatically the person people call on to get someone's attention in a loud room.
This has happened to me SO MANY TIMES. We are in the gym and it’s super loud, right? A teacher needs someone that is across the gym and you’re automatically the one who can get their attention. Once you call for the person, the whole place gets quiet and all eyes are on you.
5. "You're louder than the people that have a megaphone."
I know that my sister has heard this more than me. A lot of the time she is definitely louder than the people who have a megaphone. When I was a cheerleader I had what I would call my “normal” voice and then a voice I would use while I was cheering. Apparently to some people those weren’t much different, but they were to me. I’m honestly glad I never had to use a megaphone for people to hear me, it makes life much easier.
I’ve always led a “loud” life, and I'm honestly really proud of it. It doesn’t even offend me anymore when someone comments on my loudness, I have learned to embrace it. There are some really good things that accompany being loud. No one ever has a hard time hearing what I have to say. It is really easy to get people’s attention. I don’t ever have to worry about people ignoring me because they have no choice but to listen. Okay, that one might not be true, but you get what I'm saying. Like I always say, I love who I am and I never want to change. To all my loud friends out there—I hear you and I hope you can relate.
