Summer days typically include hot days in the sun sitting by the pool or out on the lake. But some of my summer days involve air conditioning and very comfortable seating with my best friend-- Netflix. Whether I am binge watching "Orange is the New Black" (yes, I am behind), looking for a new movie to watch, or watching a classic ("Grease" anyone?)... Netflix never fails to make my summer days go by in the best way possible. If you are like me, here are the five stages you may go through on these kind of days.
1. The "just one or two episodes" Stage
Ha. Right away we all know this is the joke of the century. One or two episodes? More like one to two hours late to whatever you were supposed to do that day. But it's alright, because Netflix is love, Netflix is life.
2. The "OK, one more" Stage
This is the stage where you probably know that you should not watch another episode and you should probably get up to do something productive... but-- what is 45 more minutes, right?
3. The "Are you still watching?" Stage
This is the moment we all hate-- the moment when Netflix asks you the question of all questions, reminding you exactly how unproductive you are with your life... with your existence. You quickly (and shamefully) click 'Yes' and move on to episode seven of the day.
4. The Body Numbing Stage
Those who get to this point understand... Your butt starts to hurt from sitting in the same position for so long, so you lie down. Your eyes have begun to water from watching the screen for too long, so you pause, close your eyes a minute, and return.
5. The "that was the last episode?!" Stage
This is the final stage that only the pros can reach in one day. You watch an episode and you don't realize that it was the last one available on Netflix, or even worse: the series finale. It's heartbreaking. You never know it is the end, you think there is going to be one more, you never think the last time is the last...
6. The Acceptance Stage
You have finally come to accept the fact that your show is over. And you have also reluctantly accepted the fact that you should probably get up, shower, and do something productive for society.
Netflix binge watching really does make the days go by. If you're sad, it's the best way to take your mind off things. If you're happy, it's the best way to make you even happier. And although you may have just finished your favorite show ever, you shouldn't be sad... don't cry because it ended, smile because it happened (and you have no life).
