What is one object that almost every American household owns? A television. Television broadcasting is at an all-time high due to the demand for convenient entertainment. There is almost always a new show starting every month. However, with the abundance of shows, it's hard to find the good ones within all of the weeds.
With all of these shows, we sometimes don't have the time to keep up with all of them, either. Moreover, sometimes we just can't make the time to start them. Luckily for us college students, we aren't too far away from heading back to school. You know what that means: it's nearing time to binge-watch our shows and Netflix queues. Here's a list of five shows that I think everyone should give a shot.
5. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

This gift that Netflix has bestowed upon us is a goldmine of comedy. This show follows Kimmy Schmidt as she sets out on a journey to conquer New York City after being freed from a religious cult. Along the way, she meets a man named Titus and that's where the fun begins. Believe me, after one episode I couldn't turn off my television. Moreover, Tina Fey helped write it, so you know it's good.
4. "Scream: The TV Series"

Honestly, I was nervous to give this show a try. I've always been a fan of the films, so I wan't totally happy when they changed the iconic Ghostface mask. However, I was blown away by the first episode. The pilot kept my interest for the entire hour. The characters were likable and the story was solid from the beginning. "Scream" is definitely one of the best shows to follow the trend of horror television.
3. "Orange Is the New Black"

Once again, Netflix blessed us with another show. OITNB will have you addicted within minutes. The show follows Piper Chapman as she adjusts to life in prison. The show also follows various other strong women figures throughout the three seasons. The cast includes many talented individuals such as Laura Prepon ("That '70s Show") and LGBT advocate Laverne Cox. OITNB perfectly blends comedy and drama into perfect television.
2. "Candidly Nicole"

VH1 created this tongue-in-cheek show based on reality television pioneer Nicole Richie. The show follows Richie's tweets to create outlandish, often inappropriate musings throughout the two seasons. This show is plain good fun that pairs well with a glass of wine. Or a bottle. Whichever your preference is.
1. "American Horror Story"

"American Horror Story" started the trend of horror television. AHS is unique as it is an an anthology series. The show revolves around a new plot every season while using many of the same actors and actresses such as Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. AHS is also known for its intensity and over-the-top everything. Just when you think it can't top itself, it does. The past four seasons have ranged from a haunted house, an asylum, a coven of witches, and a freakshow. The best part of this show is that you can watch it in any order and even skip a season you don't like. The story and characters are so rich in detail that you just can't watch only one episode. In addition, AHS showed the world that Jessica Lange is the queen of everything. Give the show a try before season 5, entitled "American Horror Story: Hotel" premieres this October.
The past five shows are all equally deserving of a shot at watching. I personally love watching all five and encourage others to watch them too. All of the listed shows have rich stories, enticing characters, and are loads of fun to watch. So, whenever you get a some down time, find a cozy spot, grab a snack, maybe some friends, and commence the binge-watching of these five wonderfully enticing shows. Happy watching, world.
