5 Shows You Have To Watch This Summer
Nubi Magazine

I love to watch television. Watching television gives me ideas for my own writing as well as allows me time to relax after a long day at work. A few of my favorite shows will be returning soon for their summer season. Here’s a little plot summary on some great shows that you should check out this summer.

1. "UnReal"

Lifetime’s new hit show from last year returns Monday, June 6, 2016. The first season followed the behind the scenes production of a fictional reality show "Everlasting." "Everlasting" is inspired by the popular ABC show "The Bachelor." After having a mental break down the previous season, Rachel, a ruthless producer, returns to "Everlasting" to help her friend and boss Quinn produce another great season. Rachel struggles with her mental health and her manipulation of the show’s contestants, her relationship with the show’s suitor, and her relationship with her ex-fiancé, who is a cameraman on the show. The second season will follow Quinn as she takes over as the head executive for the show and Rachel as she takes over Quinn’s old position. In addition to the new positions, the second season will do something that "The Bachelor" has yet to do; have its first black suitor.

2. "Wayward Pines" Season Two

Fox’s breakout season from last year is back with another season of paradise in "Wayward Pines." The first season followed the Burke family as they navigate through their new home in "Wayward Pines." Ethan Burke, as the new sheriff, tries to find out the truth about his new home and once he does he works to bring the truth to the people of "Wayward Pines." The second season picks up a few months after the final events of the first season. Dr. Theo Yedlin is trying to understand the mystery behind "Wayward Pines" as the First Generation works to bring back order after the revolution’s efforts from last season. You can catch this show Wednesdays on Fox.

3. "Orange is the New Black" Season Four

If you have been living under a rock for the past three years, you may not know anything about Netflix’s hit sow "Orange is the New Black." The show follows Piper Chapman's adventures in prison after she is sentenced to 15 months for a crime she committed over 10 years ago for her then-drug-dealer-girlfriend. The third season ended with correctional officers quitting due to lack of respect by the warden and Litchfield’s board of directors. In the fourth season we will find that Litchfield has an increase in inmates. We will also see what happens with the discrimination against Sofia, Piper’s illegal business, and the adventures of the other characters. You can catch the new season of "Orange is the New Black" Friday, June 17 at 12:01 a.m. PT.

4. "Scream the TV Series" Season Two

A spin-off television show based off of the cult classic "Scream," "Scream the TV Series" follows teens in a small town called Lakewood. After the death of a popular student in connection with cyber bullying of another student, the town is shaken with multiple murders being committed by someone that everyone assumes is Brandon James’ secret baby. This show will have you on the edge of your seat with a death of a beloved character each week. When you think you have everything figured out you will be quickly shocked to find you are wrong. The second season, returning May 30th, will focus on the survivors and their recovery. I cannot say too much about the show because I do not want to give anything out. It’s a great show. Using this season’s tagline, trust nothing.

5. "Devious Maids" Season Four

If you like a show that has diversity, this is the show for you. "Devious Maids" is about five maids who work for the rich people in Beverly Hills. Each season there is a murder mystery that needs to be solved. The fourth season, returning June 6th on Lifetime, will follow Marisol as she helps her old boss and friend Evelyn recover from last season’s drama as well as her production of a film based on her experience as a maid to save her son from going to prison for murder, Rosie’s new job, Carmen’s singing career, and the new dynamics of Genevieve and Zoila’s relationship since Genevieve has fired her. This dramedy is one of Lifetime’s best shows and guaranteed to give you a good laugh.

If you are having a lazy day you can binge watch most of these shows on Hulu and/or Netflix. After watching all the episodes you will be ready for the new seasons.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
