Five Reasons Why I Love Fall

If fall isn't your favorite season then get out

Five Reasons Why I Love Fall
Jessica Grainger

We all know fall is the most popular season. I'm just going to make it clear why that is. I have so many reasons, but I just picked my top five:

1. Pumpkins!

I love pumpkins literally as much as my future first-born. There is so much you can do with them, like make them into lattes. You can also carve them and show off all your artistic talent that your parents told you didn’t matter in the real world! Anyway, I have a pumpkin-scented body wash, a pumpkin lotion, a pumpkin perfume, a pumpkin scarf, pumpkin Uggs (painted myself, instructions on my Pinterest!) and pumpkin earrings. Sometimes, I like to carry a piece of raw pumpkin around with me in my bag. Just for good luck.

2. Leaves!

You see every color of the rainbow on the trees during fall, except pink, and that makes it so beautiful outside. I like to take walks through the woods and breathe in that fall air. I love to smell the leaves themselves and I find eating them as well really gives a lot of nostalgia since as kids we all used to jump into piles of leaves with our friends. My best friend and roommate Kate used to make the biggest piles of leaves, but that’s because she liked a neat yard or something. I think she has some issues.

3. Food!

I found this amazing fall-style recipe on Pinterest, and you just have to take kale, squash, cinnamon, Sriracha and cranberries and stick them all in a hollowed pumpkin. Then you leave it out in the sun to bake. It’s all so Eco-friendly and healthy. You can leave it as long as you can stand not eating it, since it looks so good. Some people can leave it until way past Halloween (Kate cleans mine up way before then, but she lives on her daddy’s money so I don’t worry about it) therefore the cooking time varies on how much fall spirit, human worth, you have.

4. Weather!

Sweaters. That’s really all that needs to be said here. I have so many sweaters. I have long ones, short ones, cute ones and ugly ones. It’s like my whole high school graduating class is in my closet. I’m one of the cute sweaters, of course. The rest of my friends and stuff are, well, the other ones! Kate is like all four at the same time. She’s an overachiever. Anyway, sweaters, scarves and yoga pants. Literally why I get up every morning.

5. Holidays!

Holidays are great because nobody even looks at you funny if you eat twice or three times the amount that you would normally eat. Halloween reminds me of the candy I love and the kinds I don’t love (Smarties, gross. Small pieces of chalk), and I get to dress up as not me, and I usually settle on an animal. Who doesn’t love a sexy beaver or a sexy squirrel costume? So seasonal. On. Point. And Thanksgiving just gathers all those great fall recipes so you can eat them all at once! Then have three kinds of pie. I find that if you eat constantly, you don’t have to really talk to those weird people around the table that your mom says are your relatives. It’s rude to talk with a full mouth, mom! I love Thanksgiving, and I like to call it Pre-Christmas because the only thing I love more than fall is winter and Christmas spirit.

I can’t wait until Christmas. But for now I’ll just drink some PSLs in my new Ugg Boot traveler mug, watch the leaves and snort nutmeg. Your move, Kate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
