Five Netflix Shows For A Mid-day Pick Me Up

Whenever I start a show, I almost instantly get addicted. Sometimes it takes me a few episodes to get fully immersed, but once I'm hooked, it's hard for me to stop. I can zoom through shows in a heartbeat. While I haven't seen some of the major crowd favorites like Pretty Little Liars or Grey's Anatomy, I feel like I tend to gravitate more towards laid back, shorter shows. I like shows that are only about 20-30 minutes long because I feel like they make the perfect study/homework break without spending an hour off-topic. Without further ado, here are my top five Netflix picks to brighten your day!

The Office

I started this back in May, and I was completely done by the start of August. It is SO GOOD. I'm sure everyone has heard of it, but if you haven't seen it yet, watch it. And if you have seen it... rewatch it. It took me a little bit of time to get into it, but once I got through the first season, I was hooked. It's so funny, the characters are so unique and relatable, and the episodes are only about 20 minutes, so it's the perfect show to watch while you're getting ready in the morning or taking a study break.

Gilmore Girls

This one is a little longer, each episode is about 40 minutes or so, but it's still really laid back to where you don't have to be super sucked into each episode to understand what's going on. It follows Rory Gilmore and her mother, Lorelai, in their small town of Stars Hollow as Rory goes through high school and college. It's sweet, homey, and makes you want to go to town meetings and walk to the supermarket for groceries every week. Highly recommend!

Riverdale

Admittedly, I haven't been keeping up with this show since the third season went off the rails, but the first season alone is what made me fall in love with this show. If you watch any of it, just watch the first season and you'll be fully entertained. It follows the Archie Comics characters through high school in Riverdale. One of their classmates has just been murdered, so they are trying to figure out what happened to him, while dealing with family and friend drama along the way. This is so easy to get sucked into; after the first episode I was hooked, so be careful if you have a big week of studying ahead ;)

Parks and Recreation

Oh my gosh I love this show. This is what I'm currently watching, and I'm over halfway done. I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm done; I love it so much. If you don't like this one at first, you're not alone; it took me until season three to get hooked. But after season three, it really gets good. It follows Leslie Knope and her coworkers in the parks and recreation department of a small town in Indiana. Each episode is only 20 minutes long, and it is SO funny. It has such random, awkward humor, but it's perfect for when you need a laugh.

Stranger Things

This show is perfect to get into because each season is only 8-9 episodes, so you won't get too caught up in a 10 season show. I was hesitant about Stranger Things at first because I hate scary stuff, but season 1 is actually as bad as it gets. It's set in the 1980s in Hawkins, Indiana, and there are some strange sci fi events going on that involved a demogorgon, a telekinetic girl, and missing people. It has quickly become one of my favorite shows, and I absolutely love the cast. Season three came out over the summer and I watched it in literally a day...oops.

Those are my top 5 Netflix recs! Of course, always make time to study and focus on school, but it's never a bad idea to take a break and watch a quick episode of a good show ;)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
