For the majority of college students, finals week is in full swing. The next few days speak of all-nighters and binging on cheap coffee. However, there comes a moment in every finals study session where you want to give up and give into the lure of entertainment. Here is a list of just a couple of suggestions of what to watch instead of cracking open your textbook.
1. Bridget Jones' Diary
To start the list, let's take a look at one of my personal favorites, Bridget Jones' Diary. The story begins with Bridget Jones at the end of another year and at the beginning of another long list of resolutions. Her mother continues to try to set her up with eligible men as Bridget tries to quit smoking.
After the holidays, Bridget goes back to crushing on her boss, the unattainable playboy. Through a series of events, Bridget finds herself dating him just as new guy appears on the scene. A love triangle, relatable characters and Colin Firth? Sign me up! Bonus: the storyline is based on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, so this movie kind of counts as studying for that Classic Literature exam you've been neglecting for the last week.
2. Home Alone
One of the staple Christmas movies one has to watch around Christmas time is Home Alone. Watching this movie as a kid gave me serious life goals, but now that I'm an adult, having a house to myself isn't so much a dream come true as it is a nightmare, but Home Alone still offers a mischievous Christmas spirit that continues to delight audiences with physical comedy and little Macaulay Culkin.
3. The Holiday
Having just watched this movie the other day, it's pretty impressive it has already made it onto my procrastination movie list. This movie gave me serious relationship feels. The story follows Amanda, who lives in Los Angeles, CA, and Iris, who lives in Surrey, England.
The two women are both suffering from a broken heart; one from a cheating boyfriend, and the other from unrequited love. Amanda and Iris decide to switch houses for two weeks during the Christmas season in order to clear their heads. What they find is friendship and a chance at true love.
4. The Artist
This 2011 Best Picture Oscar winner is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. The Artist is modeled after the silent films of the 1920's and does due justice to the silent revolution. The plot follows George Valentin, a silent film star in the height of his career, and Peppy Miller, a breakout "talkie" star in the beginning of hers. The cinematography is beautiful and the slow, but steadily, growing relationship between Peppy and George is inspirational. This movie is a definite must see when trying to forget about your declining GPA.
5. Elf
No explanation needed.
