Five Life Lessons Your Parents Want You to Know

1. People will come and go in your life, and that's okay.

I've lost quite a few friends during my 19 years. Whether it is because we didn't get along well or maybe we just lost touch. My parents have constantly told me during break ups with boyfriends or arguments with friends that people will come and go in your life, and that it's okay. Maybe they weren't meant to permanently be in your life. Everything happens for a reason.

2. Remember where you come from and know your roots.

I am originally from Virginia and my family is scattered across the country. The majority of my family hails from the great state of Alabama. Ever since I enrolled at The University of Alabama, I have learned so much more about my family here, and I have met some family members that I didn't even know I had. I am thankful for each and every one of them. I wasn't born in the south, but I got here as fast as I could.

3. Care for others just as much as you care about yourself.

Growing up, my family was involved in a program where we would host orphans from Ukraine in our home. These girls came from nothing and didn't have a family like I do. I am glad my family was involved in this program because it has taught me some lifelong lessons. It has taught me to look at things through other people's eyes, and it has allowed me to see how truly lucky and thankful I am for everything I have in my life.

4. Always look presentable and be on your best behavior no matter where you are or what you are doing.

My parents have always made it clear to me that I should always look presentable and be on my best behavior. My parents tell me this because you never know who you may see or meet while out and about in town. You may meet your future employer, and if you are dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, then that will not leave a good first impression.

5. Know that your parents will always be the ones you can count on.

Like I said before, people will come and go in your life. On the other hand, your parents will always be there. Your parents should be the ones you can trust the most because they are your family. You can always count on your parents being there whether you need their advice or to bail you out of jail (let's hope that will not happen).

Thanks Mom and Dad for always being the best that you two can be. I know I can be a stubborn and money-spending college kid, but thanks for always being there for me no what it is or when it is.

Thanks Mom and Dad for being my rock.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
