In writing about this topic, I realized I probably should cancel my Netflix membership and get a life. There are just too many fictional characters that break your heart when they get killed off on their respective shows or movies. So,here is my list of the five fictional deaths I will never get over.
5. Jeremy Sherwood
The only reason Jeremy Sherwood is this low on my list is because not a lot of people watched Army Wives. If I am being completely honest here, I cried through the whole episode in which the characters found out about his death -- cried like a blubbering baby. Jeremy was the son of Army Colonel Frank Sherwood, and he joined the military as an enlisted soldier after turning down West Point Academy. He decided to reenlist after his contract was up and was killed in active duty on his first tour back in Iraq. He had plans to marry a soldier he met in Iraq, Tanya.
4. Ellie from Up
Although you really only see about five minutes of the life that Ellie led with Carl, it is the most heartbreaking five minutes in a movie, ever. You see them get married, redo their house, lose their baby, save for a vacation they never get to take and then the scene ends with Ellie’s death. Maybe I just have a soft spot for the elderly, but I cry every time I watch this movie. I think the first time was the worst, because who would expect this sad of a moment in a Disney Pixar film?
3. Jack Dawson
Everyone has spent the inevitable two and half hours watching Titanic, only to be disappointed in the end when star-crossed lovers Jack and Rose do not end up together. I am more angry about the death of Jack Dawson than I am sad. If Rose wasn’t so selfish, they both could have fit on the piece of wood and lived happily ever after. Instead, Rose went on to live her life wondering, "What if?" This all could have been prevented, Rose!
2. George O’Malley
Dr. George O’Malley was a member of the original class of interns at Seattle Grace Hospital on Grey's Anatomy. He gained the nickname 007, and was laughed at by his coworkers because he was one of the weakest links. By the time of his demise, he was a great surgeon. He had planned on joining the Army to put his surgical skills to use. In true George fashion, he put his life in danger to save another. He jumped in front of a bus to save a girl who was about to get hit. When he was brought into the ER, he was unrecognizable until he wrote 007 on Meredith’s palm, and he died shortly after. Why did you have leave us like that, T.R. Knight?
1. Quentin Fields
Quentin entered a cast of characters on One Tree Hill who were as good and wholesome as the troublemaker. Lucas had just taken on the head coaching position at Tree Hill High, and he just could not seem to get through to Quentin. Nathan found a friend in Quentin on his road to recovery and showed Quentin how to be a better person and teammate. Quentin took a liking to Nathan’s son, Jaime, affectionately calling him J. Luke. Unfortunately, Quentin ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time and was murdered in a gas station after witnessing a robbery. The episode ends with Jaime putting the cape on Quentin’s casket that he and his mom made for Quentin to match his own. It was the saddest moment in television history.
