The First Few Weeks of Summer

It's All Fun And Games Until You Are Out of School

The First Few Weeks of Summer

Summer is finally here! We made it through "dead week" (finals week) and grades were posted which solidifies the end of a great year. However, coming home after months of pure freedom does have its challenges. Sure it might be great in the beginning, but after a while it gets old and you start to think about various things like:

1. Sleep

Nothing is better than being able to make up for the sleep you did not get during finals week. You finally get that goodnight sleep and the best part is waking up in the morning and not having to cram to finish any homework assignments.

2. Parents

When you come home it is awkward because you are use to being able to go out whenever you felt like it. But when you come home it is awkward because you say to yourself "do I have to ask to go out or do I just go?". It is even weirder when your parents respond with "of course! You are almost 20 years old you can do what you want". Um.. okay when did my parents become cool?

3. Avoiding Everyone From High School

High school was horrible and the last thing I want to do is run into anyone from my past and have a fake "how are you doing?" conversation. No matter how good a Jamba Juice may sound, if I look inside and see anyone from my high school I am running away.

4. Where Are My Friends?

Words cannot even begin to describe how much I already miss my friends. When you are use to living with your best friends it is weird waking up in the morning and not having them there. How did you survive without them in the first place?

5. I Miss School

Okay I admit it I miss school. While stressing over grades, staying up all night writing essays, and studying for tests was not fun, at least you were in a cool place. I can honestly say I miss going to class everyday with my friends and how we would talk about whatever cool thing happened to us during it. Freshman year of college went by way too fast, but I am happy that it was such a great time that it actually gave me something to miss. It is going to be a long summer, but I can not wait until we are all back again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
